Funny that Prince actually took the “rap” from the unreleased Feline and used it for Holly Rock but just changed some of the lyrics to fit the song. * I’ve heard Prince’s demo of Feline, and also Paul Peterson jokingly doing the rap like a country song which is hilarious

I remember Paul, and possibly Susannah, sitting on Paul's back deck, live streaming on uStream. He suddenly breaks out with that rap.

Taking it from "Feline" was just one of those great moments where he borrowed from his own canon to create new things. The lead line from "Rave" being in "The Max", the "Superfunky" horn line in other stuff, the endless incarnations of "Get Off" into "Gett Off" as a sample, plus expanding on almost miniscule elements and making EPs like the Cream or Gett Off and New Power Generation EPs. I mean, would we have "Violet The Organ Grinder" had he not created "Gett Off"? Probably not. (Even Janet pulled from "I Get Lonely" in "Dammn Baby", which was a nice moment.)

It sorta lends to him saying when he wanted to hear new music, he'd just create it, opposed to turning on the radio. I suppose that also supports Nelson George talking about when you work with Prince you get a Prince production. You know it's Prince before he even sings. Is work is very insular that way, which helped him keep his own sound. Sure he was influenced by peers and contemporaries, but he ultimately relied on himself to make great music. Iron sharpens iron, and he had some very sharp musicians around him.
