the ORIGINAL NPG Music Club that launched on February 14, 2001 as a downloadable player that fans would install the player on their harddrive & would act as your download manager as well as media player. It only lasted a month

Well it lasted a year with the download format (monthly AHDIO shows and extra mp3 files), then the next year's iteration of the NPGMC moved to the physical CD model (from Feb 2002 onwards)

It was something to see. It was a musical dream world for a Prince(r.i.p.) fan. He did so much for his fans. Made it so much fun and mystical to follow him . He was ALWAYS full of surprises with the NPGMC. ANYBODY that says he didn't care for his fans is going through an early stage of dementia.

From 2003 until it closed. My name was Dragonscloud. I would post daily in the whatuplayin thread. I learned about so much great music from the NPGMC, from a wide variety of different people sharing what they were playin that day. I miss the music club and there will never be another.

I remember NPGMC and I remember the exciting prospect of getting new Prince music - no other artist seemed to be doing anything remotely like that at the time.

No, but I would have been! And some of those NPGMC releases were great, like Xpectation. His instrumental excursions are criminally ignored!

The music of Xpectation is great, but at the time Xpectation and C-Note were a slap in the face to us fans.

That year of NPGMC, we were supposed to get 4 new albums (albums that were listed by name in the tour program). When we got the One Night Alone Piano and the 3-CD One Nite Alone Live box set, which satisfied the "4 CDs" obligation, people complained. And rightfully so.

So Prince hastily released Xpectation (which was originally called Xenophobia) as a sort of "fuck you". C-Note, wiith its $100 bill artwork (which was what that year of NPGMC was called) was another one.

Yeah, that rings a bell, actually. Interesting tale. I know artists change their minds about projects all the time (and I speak from experience), but if you can’t deliver on a promise, don’t make it!

Prince(r.i.p.) eventually kept his promise! Also with his 40 album career the nerve of U all to complain about a couple of measly albums .

The box set was VERY WELL put together! Sending it to ALL the NPG Muziq Club members as a free gift was a brilliant treat and idea that I gladly accepted in my mailbox.

Some History about the Club:

The site had around 400,000 members. It opened on February 14, 2001 and closed on July 4, 2006. Prince replaced the site with 3121.com.

I remember joining this one, username and all in 2007. But I thought it was odd that after I joined, there wasn't a forum message board even if it asked for a username.

Then, oh well, I came to the org using an account I had previously signed up under in early 2004.

Had some of my best moments as a prince fan beacuse of the club. From the soundchecks, to the best seats in the house, to early access to aftershows. Too many memories to recount but I never once took it for granted.
