I really like this. I especially like the length because while I enjoy the basic groove of the track, the album version goes on far too long for me and I always reach for the skip button. I'll replace the album version with this one and be even happier than I already was with Originals.

I like it.

Of course it has some flaws and we'd all rather they released X, Y or Z but it's still a nice little video. .

I want to circle back on my comment because it has a little more of a negative tone than I wanted to convey. I am a big fan of the album and even the track Holly Rock and video, I just dont think its the best choice for a single. That said, there likely isnt a single in or out of the vault that is going to make an impact on young music fans, unless you put Shawn Mendez or someone like that on it....and I would prefer that not happen (but it would be a good thing for promotion, even if us die hards would be super butthurt). Hell, it would take Purple Rain Part 2 to even make a minor dent on the modern charts. And thats okay. The same goes for virtually every single historically great artist. Living artists like Mccartney, Madonna, Janet, The Stones, etc... fight like hell to chart and promote their albums every avenue possible and most dissapear into the night after a few weeks, so its kinda silly to expect Prince's postumous work to breakthrough to young listeners. There are very rare exceptions, but they are crazy rare. So far, the Estate releases have been lauded by critics and thats about as much as you can expect at the moment.

After seeing this piece of amatuerish, childish piece of shit, is it any wonder that I have turned my attention back to David Bowie?? More mature, classy, elegant, prolific output from his Estate(Thank You Very Much Iman). David Bowies Legacy is lasting forever, IMO!!!

Totally agree.

All the other footage being discussed - live footage, rehearsals, whatever - I want to see that in the correct context. Not put into a montage sequence for a promo video. This was a fun take on the promo, I enjoyed it tbh.

I don't think it's Sheila E. It doesn't look like her, at all. You have to have permission to use someone's likeness like that. She didn't sign over her face to the Prince estate. This is considered a new track, not a Shiela E. recording. So if they didn't ask her, or if they did she said no (I doubt they consulted her at all, and why would they?), then they can't just recreate her likeness in a video.

Wasn't it more like 3 years worth of eras though, all pre-dating the songs actual recording era look?

All I know is, the Org is more unpredictable than the man himself. Is this video like when there's a super esoteric track on an album that one doesn't easily "get"--like how some people don't "get" Make-Up. Do I need to put this on a loop until I understand why this isn't Gold Experience drip-drop sound FX levels of swiss cheese?


That being said, I mean, I guess if we're just comparing it to other Prince videos and other Prince videos alone, it's, uh.... definitely another one.

Just an opinion, but I don’t want to see “Cartoon Prince” playing a Prince song. I’d actually prefer the out of sync real rehearsal or show footage.

They should have had Cartoon Prince tickling the 'ole cartoon ivories for Piano & Mic promotion. Old tape schmape when you got Cartoon Prince cycling through Purple Rain outfits every .5 seconds.

And if Comerica really want that ca$h money they might want to think of putting some reigns on the Michael Howe budget to deliver us a season or two of Cartoon Prince: The Animated Series in time for the holiday season.
