I am not against conversation (or doing this on this forum), but about the right subjects.

The info was put there so that stupid questions did not have to be asked anymore.

Instead, the info was to be found in a few select locations.

So the human did the work only once, to be assisted by the googles and such.

You continually misrepresent the thought process of people posting questions on the Org (i.e. you keep claiming they don't know what Google is or how to use it), and then you have the nerve to complain that I'm twisting your words? Do you not see the irony in that?

Let me throw a little logic your way:

Yes, it is true that you've never explicitly stated that it's lazy and stupid to "aquire information through conversation."

However you have said that it's lazy and stupid to "ask questions on the Org that could be answered by means of Google."

Well, "asking questions on the Org..." is by defintion "aquiring info through conversation". A = B.

Thus, if you think "asking questions on the Org" is lazy and stupid, then by definition you must think "aquiring infor through conversation" is lazy and stupid.

I love parts of this and dislike parts of this.

From 1:30mins it's awesome and I love it!

I can't believe Prince ever did this. I don't believe he would have laid his vocal so bare at the beginning.

In fact that opening vocal is not great at all for someone who is a good singer.

In fact, the vocal isn't clear and has poor diction and pronunciation. If Prince intended this mix I am sure he would have perfected the intro vocal.

It's also bloomin' obvious this is the same vocal as the previous officially released version.

I don't want to label this as a 'Frankenstein' mix, as some people do, but surely this can't be heralded as a great treatment to a classic Prince composition!

Take with a grain of salt but there's a rumor that I heard from some collectors that this version is a edit that Prince considered for the Girl 6 movie.

Cool, but just seems an odd choice for that movie, I guess he ultimately thought so too if the rumor is true.

Japanese import.

all it took was a Google search (yes Bart..) , iDeal and 7 days waiting.

And yet, I can't seem to get myself to unwrap the damn thing and play it .. like I'm some sort of idiotic collector..

hell, all my Prince vinyl LP's, Bootlegs and (maxi) singles are played to shredds, as well as all the cd's and tapes.

ít's a complete retarded phase I must be going through I guess.

but the cinematic mix is pretty hard to find online, exept for LQ snippets ... (sorry Bart, but like I said.. retarded phase of some sort)

so.. facing huge dillema's

Prince and I were listening to a bunch of Rufus records back in the day-- and this was before we thought about doing strings on the first record. We were talking about how brilliant the strings were on those albums. I had also been listening to a lot of Claus Ogerman and Bill Evans. There's one record they did called Symbiosis and it's just one of the most beautifully arranged records. Ogerman's string arrangement, and Evans playing the piano over it, is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.
The only thing that's ever came close to feeling as perfectly arranged in terms of the strings was on the Ruficized record. I just said, “Prince, why don't we get Clare to do the strings on our record?” He said, “Yeah.” I said, “My dad knows him.” I called my dad and said “Pop, you gotta call Clare and see if he's up for it.” He was.
We sent him the 24 track. He got back to us right away and said “Absolutely.” Within a month we had all the lead sheets and we had the entire score for the record. We went in and cut it and I couldn't have been happier."

Thank you for sharing these details about the inspiration behind working with Clare. I’ve found Bill Evans’ “Symbiosis” on Apple Music and I can hear a lot of what I love about tracks from the Parade / Dream Factory / Crystal Ball period. Funny thing — not calling to mind the Family album. Compositions at times seem too epic and complex for the Family’s blend of new wave + old Hollywood drama. But spot on for the song Crystal Ball. Thanks again.

Edit: Dug deeper into the Evans / Ogerman albums and “Symbiosis” is by far the superior of the three. The other two are a little too close to “Jackie Gleason Orchestra” mid-century midwest dinner party for my tastes.

But grab a copy of Symbiosis if you want to hear a good album that reportedly inspired working with Clare. I can hear the inspiration behind SOTT (movie) segues in Symbiosis. Good stuff!

Yes, Symbiosis is beautiful, and I love its connection with Prince’s music and his collaborative start with Clare Fischer. It was an ongoing relationship that always added depth to Prince’s music.
