i wouldn't believe shit sinead says, she said arsenio was his supplier too, which is stupid as fuck, arsenio threatened to sue her over that one and I think she backed off on that. As far as women/violence, the only time I heard anything that sounded believable was in the bios, jill jones got her wrist broken by him, I could see that, dealing with the pressures and so on, but I don't think it was a habit of his to do that. Most of the women who worked with him say he was great to work with in many ways, other than being difficult and too demanding. susan rogers tells an amusing story of how she was warned about working with him alone, she never had an issue in terms of harassment or physical abuse and she saw a lot of him, so, whatever violence he may have acted out on, I don't think it was habitual.

He actually did break Jill Jonse's wrist? Was she really quoted by saying that? If that is indeed true, my respect for Prince will be bung into the bin.

lol. People are complex mate.

A certain kind of mellow.

An article published in the Daily Beast over the weekend recounts the strange circumstances surrounding the premiere of Prince's movie Under the Cherry Moon in 1986. A young motel chambermaid in Sheridan, Wyo., won an MTV dream date with Prince in her tiny hometown. "On TV, it seemed like a fairy tale. Behind the scenes, coke-fueled chaos reigned," the blurb at the top of the story synopsizes. (It's not Prince or the Chambermaid doing coke, for the record). Deep into the fascinating and lengthy story is a reference to Duluth.

Bobby Z, drummer for Prince's backing band, the Revolution, reflected on the how the Prince premiere was essentially the biggest thing that ever happened to the small farming, ranching and coal-mining town of Sheridan.

"It wouldn't have been the same if it had been in a bigger place — like, say, Duluth — because you really couldn't take over the town like this has," Bobby Z says in a quote attributed to the Minneapolis Star and Tribune.

Lisa Barber also enjoyed her time under the protective wing. When the party ended, her date made sure she had a ride home in a limousine. "I'll have lots of memories, but I know he'll probably never see him again," she said of her beau, who gave her earrings and a gold necklace as keepsakes. "I'll never take them off," she vowed. Looking back, she says the only good flaw in a perfect evening involved a misunderstanding over some costume jewelry Prince had impulsively asked to borrow. "He was a dream date," says Lisa, "even if he didn't give me back my pearls."

To bad his date was more into motley cru. Prince tried. You could tell she wasn't interested. But my question is is personality has really shined here. Was that the real Prince, the way he really was? He was out going and funny here. Most other videos of him shows him reserved and quiet.

You have a lot of reading to do in regards to this event.

That's what I thought too. I've never seen him happier than this period. Either he's acting like Christopher or Morris Day lol Maybe a little bit of both.

Um no people, he was acting like himself, did you ever see Prince @ the Cobo Arena? Same antics. It is just Prince being playful because he was trying to impress the ladies, simple as that. He did it ALL for the ladies. Especially during that time of his life.

Prince was on the mountain top during that time - especially at the Cobo birthday show, however, I’m sure by the UTCM premiere he had lost some of the wind in his sails. Then he had to play the premiere show at that shitty place - the hotel banquet room -in a state with probably the least amount of Prince fans confused Lisa Coleman stated playing that show was really rough, because the ceiling was so low that the lights were burning down on them. The stage was so small too. I also read that girls were grabbing at Prince while he was performing which he was not happy about. He was normally way above the crowd at a regular show, but there he was much closer because it was not a concert hall.
*
That “win a date” contest resulted in having to do the premiere in one of the worst locations for that film and Prince’s music. He made the best of it, but I’m sure it was not one of his favorite memories.
*
I think all of his “Morris” style antics, the bodyguard dancers, goofing with Jerome on stage, etc - were his way of going back to his funk/party style and moving away from the more artistic/jazz infused music. He carried that through to the SOTT tour as well. I’m sure it was also for the female fans as well - especially the way he was doing the song Head, but most of the stage antics would have connected more with the male fans.

not sure if the video is still up anywhere, but his performance was on fire that night, it was like jazzercise x1000.

Yes, I’ve seen it on YT. He was definitely animated on stage and trying to make the best of it for sure. He also knew that MTV was covering the event live and his Father was there too - escorted by Prince’s side chick Devon D and her fellow Playboy Bunny friend biggrin They are seen standing next to him while he’s being briefly interviewed by Martha Quinn. So, Prince had several incentives to make it work that night.
*
Even the “date” winner - bless her heart, but she was not even a Prince fan at the time - she was just bored the day of the call-in contest and happened to win. She was a heavy metal music fan and painfully shy. Prince’s assistant had to fly in ahead of time to prep her for the event. Yikes!!

^^^ Not sure what you posted - couldn't link to it, but here is Prince and crew performing at the UTCM premiere:

*

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hOF2-yO9MM

Watching the footage you can see how small the stage is, and also the old ceiling with holes in the tiles confused The lights were SO close to them - no wonder Lisa said her keyboard started melting!!

*

Prince also had cameras almost on top of him - rare to see footage so close to his face. He knew the deal, and he performed like it was the Cobo birthday show. That's why he was one of the best performers smile

Oh cool - wish I could paste it and get to that page.

Here's the full clip of the MTV coverage for the UTCM premiere - It really is a bit cringe-worthy for sure biggrin The cowboy hat makers and the owner of the theatre are priceless!

*

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te97LW90d1Q

*

And Prince's Dad...."he got all his moves from me. Without me what would he be??..." Then Martha, after seeming to be at a loss for words, says "I would say he wouldn't even be here tonight at all", and then she quickly moves to introducing Lisa Barber biggrin Smart girl, that Martha!

^^^ Interesting to note too - when Eric played his solos Prince would always say, "Eric, shut the fuck up" when he was ready to transition to the next part of the song. At this show he just said, "shut up Eric...". Associates have said he would not curse in front of his Dad, because his Dad was so against it by that time. Wendy stated when his Dad would visit them during rehearsal they would not play any of the raunchier songs that included cursing. She said it would be like, "oh, right we can't play that one because Dad's here..."

But I love that UPTOWN mindset was even in Sheridan Wyoming

Scratching my head as to whoever came up with this publicity stunt for the movie premiere. It makes me cringe watching those videos. This movie deserved a Hollywood glamour premiere at Mann’s Chinese Theater.

It was an unfortunate decision on Prince's (and/or his managment) part to do that premiere contest. However, a Hollywood premiere wouldn't have helped the film's ratings confused
