Fuck...has it been a week already

It's my 3rd favorite album after Anthology and Crystal Ball. I would like another 3 dics. It's wonderful.

I always feel like it's missing the point to try to edit it, though. It's an overgrown ugly duckling of an album - that's part of its character, really. But at least that means it's an album you can really get lost in, to an extent.

I think this is on the money... I love Emancipation for what it is, a big sprawling mess. It's about the journey with this one... most definitely. It could actually be longer, and that would just add to that meandering journey.

When it first came out I thought it was the greatest album of all time. I soon revised that opinion somewhat, haha...

Also, I'm reminded of how Nick Cave responded recently to fans asking how come his album Nocturama was so terrible (that's another imperfect album that I like!)

Personally, I like Nocturama. I like that it is out there, moving around the place and spoiling things. I like it that someone may accidently play it at a party and people start throwing up in the ashtrays. I like it that everyone stands upwind from it. I especially like it that of the sixteen records the Bad Seeds have produced we only have one Nocturama, whereas with some bands half their records are Nocturamas, and with most bands all of their records are Nocturamas.

I think that in the end we all need our Nocturamas. Your Nocturama may, indeed, be the most important thing you ever do. Failure fortifies us. It moves us forward. It strips everything back to its essential nature and leaves us clean and pure, ready to begin again. You don’t create something as problematic as Nocturama without a certain risk and a little courage and the temerity to fail. I love this troubled record for that. It may just be my favourite.

Objective answer: yes

Subjective answer: no. The fact that Emancipation is such a bloated, unmittigated self-congratulatory statement is why I love it and will only listen to it in full when I decide to play it. His White Album, if you will. A package issued with lots of non-essential material, but it doesn't come across as the album that tried to be perfect. It wanted to be noticed.
