Different Types Of Prince Fans (in my opinion)

This is my list of prince fans (in my opinion). Leave some others below!

1. The 80s Fan

This typical listener just likes his 80s stuff and probably doesnt even know stuff like 3121 and musicology.

2. The Obsessed Fan

This fan has all the cd’s, posters all over his/her room, and EVEN HAS TIDAL (wow.) even though they already have all the cd’s and vinyl.

3. Later Music Fan

This fan hardly ever listens to his 80s stuff (unless it’s on the radio) and is always jamming to Art Official Age, or Musicology.

4. The Tour Fan

Watches every concert on YouTube, and probably has been to all of them as well.

5. Fake Fans

Say they always like Prince, but just likes purple rain.

6. Side Project Fan

Likes The Time, Vanity 6 and more, than prince himself!

7. Friend (Me!)

The nice dedicated fan who isn’t too obsessed but isnt a noob either, and probably has his/her fair share of albums in their collection.

Put some more below!

I guess I'm kinda this fan although I don't have posters all over my wall but I do have 3 Prince related tattoos. I was about to sign up to Tidal just to hear "Originals" but then "found" the flac files so I didn't have to. I think there are sub catergories to each type biggrin

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I guess obsessed, though I haven't had a poster up since 1992 or so (a large SOTT tour thing, sadly deteriorated years ago in storage) and I don't have TIDAL. So I have the music , which apparently is all it takes--but honestly that's way less obsessive if you got the stuff over decades as it came out than if you did it starting with Musicology and went back.

8. The 1990s New Power fan

Always compares the 1990s against the 1980s. Can never actually express real appreciation about the 1990s music unless it's putting down the 1980s. And odly never seems to delve deep into 1990s albums/era discussion

Kids and Teenagers are the most "obsessive" fans, in my opinion. I was obsessed with Prince, Madonna, Michael J when I was a kid/teen. 😃

The fan that studies Prince like people study Michaelangelo Beethoven or Art History

I'd say I'm a 7.
Bought all the music.
Seen a handful of concerts.
Not deeply involved with bootlegs.
Read a few books.
No posters.

That's a nice list you posted biggrin. I'd consider myself a combination of type 1 and 6 with the extension that I also listen to Prince's later music. It's just that Prince's and vanity's 80s music left a deep and lasting impression and turned me into to a life-long fan.

Going by the OP, I kinda used to be a 6 and now I've become a bit of a 3. lol

Someone gave me copies of the Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 albums years ago, and I was into them for years before I was into Prince 'proper'. Nowadays, although I do love basically all of Prince's output, the 2014-15 era is one of my favourites of his, as is the Come/Gold Experience one.

Per the OPs list I'm none of the above. Yet here I sit on the same stoop I've been at for years. That's ok I prefer self-determination. In 39 (plus now) he's done nothing that has made me want to move from my stoop.

I think I'm leaning #6 side project fan, it kind of offends me when people think a clear guide vocal with a semi-lethargic delivery is infinitely superior to a more-passionate released version Prince hand-produced himself just because he didn't sing on the actual track.

Or the worst, a guide vocal surfaces, "I've never ever heard or heard of this song in my entire life." Really? It came out in '83...

Anyway, I got one:

10. The Tape Hoarder

This fan thinks knows all "other" lesser Prince fans are panhandling infantiles who just don't get it. Sometimes they don't know why they even bother, and are always planning to log-off for good shortly.

Hmm, not sure where I fit.
I like the 80s musc, the 90s music, have a lot of CDs (don't have them all), have been to 7 concerts and do love watching him live, I have my numbered lithograph from the Welcome To America tour, and a few of the books that I keep as collectibles. I guess I like the side projects, but not a real big fan of those. Don't really have any of those CDs unless they came out with one of Prince's.

shrug I guess I fit in there somewhere.

I am a bit of each of them except for 5. and 2. And still very nostalgic of the 80's era.

10. The Warner Bros FAN/SNOB

Only listens to the WB releases. Including (especially) associated artists.
Was once a massive collector, but stopped once they heard Emancipation. So is bitter that they never bought the now extremely rare releases from the late 90’s.
But still attended concerts till the end.
Also dislikes FAMS asking why the Lovesexy CD is only one track. biggrin

cool

There is an important category missing - the Dedicated Collector.

I have been a dedicated collector of ALL decades. I love Prince's music so I have followed him on his journey throughout everything!

To believe in an artist is to allow an artist to grow, experiment and morph throughout their lifetime.

I collect everything whether it be CD, MC, vinyl, VHS, DVD, Blu Ray, digital - official or bootleg.

I am not bias to any particular decade, yet in his last few years he had found new energy, enthusiasm and creativity.

cool
