Can you elaborate on that one?

Sure.

I went to St. Louis Park High School.

On the way to get back home I used to pass by a pet food wareshouse.

As chance would have it, Prince rented out the warehouse to practice and get ready for Purple Rain.

The Time, Appolonia, etc. and all kinds of folks would be there.

Prince's practicing was so loud and booming you could hear it from outside; again, this was not a residential area; a junk yard was close by (on an earlier thread I go into great detail about the location, what's there now, etc.)

Anyway this went on for quite a long time.

Me and my friends would sometimes kind of hang out around there and watch the limos and such and listen.

At the time, we would always hope they'd play something we knew; this was obviously when 1999 was popular; but they were practicing the music that would be Purple Rain.

It went on for quite a length of time and we'd hear and sometimes see him.

End of story.

What an experience that must have been!!!

It was pretty cool.

Growing up in the Minneapple afforded me lots of Prince "run-ins" and such for many years.

I didn't get to see Prince perform live in his 80s/90s heyday...though I badly wanted to. I was young, he didn't come near where I lived, and I was too poor. Not to mention that we didn't have the kind of concert notifications that we do now via the internet. My best memory of TWO live Prince performances were my dream small club performances announced (as he often did!) on Instagram with very short notice at a club within walking distance from my home. It was a benefit for a local charity in 2014, I believe. He was still at the top of his game, played two BACK TO BACK concerts with no break. Took my son to both shows and it was amazing! Flawless on guitar, piano, and vocals. He looked very healthy at that time and I was right next to the stage. And I finally heard "Something In The Water" performed live! A dream come true--and he didn't disappoint. A tried and true professional musician and vocalist until the end. So glad I had that "small club" experience...and was able to share that with my son. cool What was your best memory of seeing Prince live? Probably beats mine, if you were there at his majesty's baddest...

Never saw him, but have been sad about it today neutral

4/14/16 - Atlanta, GA 7 PM and 10 PM shows - These two concerts are bittersweet. I'm so grateful that I got to see his final two concerts, but I also hate that they were his final two concerts. I can still close my eyes and see him on stage, see him stomping that right leg, keeping time with one of the songs, see him clapping in time. The idea that I saw him perform those songs for the very last time - Purple Rain, Black Sweat, A Case of U, it's just ... I miss him and wish he was still here.

I've seen him multiple times as well but like you, this is the one I'll always remember. I can still see him too!

Now the light fades out and I wonder what I'm doing in a room like this
There's a knock on the door and just for a second I thought I remembered you

"The Beautiful Experience" concert.. Feb. 1994 Paisley Park. Amazing!!! Debut of Interactive, Days Of Wild, Shhh, and Now! Was standing next to Salt & Pepa in front row .. lots of celebs and pro athletes at show.. really cool night!

Probably my 1st live bootleg. To this day, that version of Shhhh is one of my all-time favorite live Prince jams.

*

Question for Vitality- what did Salt and Pepa seem to think of the "None Of Your Business" cover that Prince closed the show with?

One Night alone Tour DC at the intimate Warner Theatre in 2002. He orders the house lights on and peers into the audience. I swear that our eyes meet for a brief moment and I gave him this look like "how wonderful it must be to have limitless musical talent" and he gives a little sigh and a look of "I know" and looks away and the moment is gone...and i I wonder forevermore if I imagined it. Prince with Revolution, Morris Day and others at First Avenue. The stage was packed with Princes side projects groups. I think this was just before the Purple Rain movie came out.Maybe someone can identify the date for me. Prince said at least 3 times "who do you belong to?" Prince was SO happy. And I was only 6 feet from the stage. Unbelieveable experience. It was my first time seeing him live.

musicology tour, cleveland, 3rd row, purple rain solo in my face. the man NEVER (well, maybe not never; but definitely not that night) faked it...brought me to tears.

2nd might be hit n run, louisville that i got to take my son to. it was his first of what i hoped would be many more prince shows...

I was at Gund Arena for the 2004 Musicology tour as well! That was my first time seeing him live, (other was Welcome 2 Chicago) It was incredible. My now ex wife who wasn't really a Prince fan, didn't understand my obsession at the time. Halfway thru Shhh, during the guitar solo she looks over at me with tears in her eyes and says "I get it now."

I'll never forget that. His guitar that night went straight thru you, shaking your soul. Was nothing short of spiritual.

2006, when he and Tamar went on Tour together. I saw him at a small club in D.C. called "Black Cat" , and was literally 5 feet from him in front of the stage. Watching him up close play guitar the whole show was something I'll never forget. It was unbelievable.

[Edited 5/29/19 8:21am]

I was going to mention a similar experince in Houston. Small Club and Tamars family was there. we were right up on the stage and he ripped through an incredible Purple Rain perfeormance for Tamars family at the end of the show. Very cool experience.

The other would be his Musicology tour in the round. I had row 2 seats on the floor in Dallas. That show was perfect. The band was incredible and the setlist was perfect. Fantastic memories.

Chastity

I am not sure why a lot of people has to list all the times they saw him in concert. The question is WHAT'S Your best memory.

I could list 60+ concerts and they won't all be the best.

My best memory is from Vega 2002. Aftershow. He played the DJ in the back only visible for a short time. Then he played drums OFF the scene. Which - YES - mean they had two drum sets.

Then they kincked in the show with "Who knows" where he literally jumped in to do the guitar. I was in front of all the show. Fabolous

It's strange to think that was his last performance. I thought he would outlive us all.

1. Last show and aftersnow at O2 Arena 2007 - Dude came out in the main arena at 8.30pm ... played on at the aftersnow 'til 4.30am. When he came out for that last encore at 4.00am, blew my mind. Sun was almost up by the time we walked back to our hotel. Simply one of the best nights of my life.

2. Hop Farm, Kent 2011 - Was surreal seeing Prince in a field just 30 mins drive from my house. Was a beautiful warm summer evening, open air, crowd was in great spirits, great setlist of all the hits. It was also first time my sister had seen him. We had done Foo Fighters at Milton Keynes the day before and got stuck on the motorway on way home, not getting in 'til 6am; my sister had also done Take That at Wembley the Thursday and Wireles Festival the Friday to. We were dog tired but the minute Prince appeared we were invigorated. My sister said it was one of the greatest performances she'd ever seen ... I had to agree.

Xenophobia, every night. Both times Days of wild were played & when he asked the crowd who hadn’t seen him before and not one person raised their hand...epic week.
