"When Doves Cry" is beautiful (anyway) but when sung a cappella can bring a tear to the eye. When is this performance to be?

Yea, if Mick can go there for Ed Sullivan, I think fans should let a high schooler off the hook razz. Also, and I can't put names to the behavior, but if you ever remixed a Prince song, took out a part of a Prince song that you didn't like, subtracted songs so you could listen to your version of said album...just, bite your tongue. Hard.

It's my last term at the musical theatre club that I attend (since I'm going to be going away for university) and I wanted to "go out with a bang", so I arranged an acapella version of When Doves Cry for us to perform at the end-of-term showcase. The only problem is that the principal of the club said that the lyrics for the first verse are "too suggestive", citing the lines "you and I engaged in a kiss" and "the sweat of your body covers me". I need to change these lyrics in order for us to be allowed to perform it, but I'm struggling to think of good alternatives and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas as to what I could change it to?

fucking baby assed millenials..man sing the song the way it ws written..tell the principal that you have some artistic integrity. These kids out here doing bath salts, dumb ass online challenges, riled up for every damn day it rains..they can handle those non sexually threatening lycis. My word.

Just leave those lyrics alone, will you?
If someone has issues with the lyrics, pick a different song.

I've got exams coming up in 2 weeks and I don't have the time to create a four-part harmony acapella version of another song. I'm not too happy either about having to change the lyrics either, but if it means it will get performed, then so be it.

Leave. Those. Lyrics. Alone.

Well, he's doing it on stage for a skool, just once, but at least he's not gonna try and replace the original by his most superior Audacity edit for posterity like some people we know who call themselves Prince fans lol lol lol

I don't particularly get behind the practice of changing lyrics to water down the song for youngins or the thin-skinned, but I do get behind anybody's right to cover any song as they see fit. Fuck, Prince himself fucked up enough of his songs by watering down his own lyrics. That's a bigger offense than anything going on in the auditorium of this high school.

Yeah, but that school perfomance might easily end up on YouTube, uploaded by one of the parents, and someone will listen to that thinking those are Prince's lyrics.

Ok, I guess it's not available in your region then. I embedded the video in my previous post and it plays fine for me. Do you even get to see the embedded youtube box in my comment? Or is it missing altogether?

The problem isn't really whether it's appropriate for kids to sing the lyrics, the problem is really the number of adults that would be offended.

Just combine the two verses and only do the verse once.

Dig if U will the picture

An Ocean of Violets in bloom

Animals strike curious poses

Can U my darling can u picture this?

No, it doesn't rhyme, but they are all actual lyrics to the song.

It would be better if you kept 'u and I engaged in a kiss' though. That way it at least rhymes. Just stick the 'Animals strike curious poses' in the place of 'the sweat of your body covers me.'
