yeah I remember when it was first posted. But I questioned the time period back then. A lot of articles were posting a lot of stuff in wrong time periods. Album and concert images in wrong years etc

Lovely thread...some querying whether it is Prince, too! I mean, it is Prince but it certainly doesn't look like Prince. A curious thing.

Arguing guys (I'm assuming those claiming this is 1990s are all male, considering the arguments posed), it's obviously Prince. You can see his cheek mole if you look closely. The lower lip thing is fooling you but look at the teeth.

The photo is courtesy of Morris Day, who credits it to "Cloreen Bacon Skin".

It's definitely early 1980s, during the lifespan of "Jamie Starr".

It's not so much the lower lip, its the shape of the shoulders - yes, shoulder pads, I know - and the face looks fuller - it may be the face being pulled. It looks likes a photo of Morris with a Prince look-a-like. But, it's Prince.

I'm guessing that this pic was taken in the studio during the recording of The Time's What Time Is It album.

Further clues pointing to 1982: on the board you can see the hand-written channel info strip and right next to the Linn you can see the OBSX (Oberheim) synth channels. In '83 Oberheim brought out the OB-8 and Prince probably bought it immediately.

(It's also interesting to note that he has recorded his guitar by going straight into the board, you can see the 'DI guitar' channel.)

But Allen said 1981

Honestly whenever I came across that photo with Rodger, everyone (99%) said it wasn't Prince so I never took it seriously

The nose does not look likes Prince's nose. Prince did not smoke neither.
