the "Gangster Glam" video is an amazing piece of music history... Prince doing pushups poolside while wearing a mankini, as Tony M stands so close-by in the water with his pimp-cane...how cool do you have to be, to carry a pimp-cane under water??...the legendary N.P.G.

lol
It's the gift that keeps on giving. I've always loved it. Cool to get a glimpse into his house and world in general outside Paisley, Glam Slam, his cars.
.
Tony was funny when talking about it in a recent interview. P said to him 'I've got one of these (mankini) for you' to which Tony replied 'no, you haven't'

Erm, probably not. It would be Halloween, and a lot of those fashions were costum made for a 5'2" 110 pound man who still barely pulled them off. His bandmembers also got custom fitted, and I can only think of a few that kept the look going without his influence. They're costumes. He didn't stick to any one look, I can't imagine he'd want fans to play dress up like that. Also a lot of it looks very dated now....and even did then.

That said the weird Prince-land items like his pajamas, and body suits could have a market if someone duped them. Some of his signature looks do get recycled by designers (like the trench coats, the bolero cap, etc.) but they weren't like the alien Prince looks nobody else would wear.

I don't wear Prince inspired clothes every day, only when I go to Prince related events. And I am not the only one either.

I couldn't pull it off any of it at 50 so no eek biggrin

The worst outfits would be the bandmembers. I was always felt like there was always one bandbember that got screwed with something silly looking.

There's an anecdote of prince scolding someone from his staff for using the word "costume", saying that his and the band's outfits were "clothes not costumes".

IDK, I guess I spent too many years of my life hanging out with freaks and artists, where the craziest outfits are socially acceptable as long as they look good on you. I realize most people wouldn't wear clothes that look too extravagant, and would get shit from the people they know for doing so. But in my world it was OK, and we were not wearing "costumes". I'm sure other artists on the site know what I mean.

Now yeah, most Prince clothes would look ridiculous on most people, myself included, particularly the WB era outfits. But after the WB era he wore many clothes that I think were just elegant, without being too extravagant.
