I agree, it does not have the same energy as the film but I think that is normal considering that it was more of a loose NYE show than a regular tour concert.

By the way, that If I Was Your Girlfriend version from that night at Paisley is the one I listen to the most. It may not sound as tight as the one from the movie but it is one of those rare live versions of that song where he does the song justice. I am not a big fan of later live versions that had live horns in it and that sounded too cheerful for me. Just my opinion but I think that IIWYG is such a great example of an introverted, quiet, reflecting and melancholic song about relationship and communication problems that singing it loud and fast and cheerful did not really add anything to the song.

Sometimes I like when the mood of a song changes over the years, for example Something in the Water has gone through many, many changes but IIWYG ? I don´t know. I prefer that NYE version or the movie version over any other version.

Yeah I agree. Maybe there were tired of it themselves. Would have been cool to have rehearsed some Sheila e tracks like Koo Koo a Love Bizarre the Glamorous Life etc

Oh lol I'm sorry, I think it is the ending 'the heart Cat & Prince falling back on' that looked like they just didn't want to be there lol. Not as much the song.

Yes, missing the original intent of the song, like a sing along lol doesn't work on that one. I'm going to listen to the NYE version again. SOTT is another that making it to drummy and full band like like he did a lot in the latter 90s and in the 2000s whipes away that feeling of doom. Chaka Kahns version reminds me of how Prince rendered it after 87. Either stripped like on the album or dark and rock like on the SOTT show.

haha, well prince understood instinctively what to do to get his following, mix the band, dumb to be pissed off about it. Springsteen said what all the great performers knew, that audiences want to look onstage and see a bit of themselves. Prince knew this so he could only blame himself.

I have little fantasies of my 1987 Dream Factory/Camille-esque era Revolution band. Lisa & Wendy would definately be in the band, and I would have added Sheile E and Juan along with Bobby Z. there is so much more musical sounds could have been accomplished live with 3 levels of drumming and percussions.

Madhouse needed to happen. I just wanted it bigger and more dedicated as a protege group. Levi shined really bright visually when I saw him in videos and a live performance of Madhouse. And Jill having a band that could carry her album. as well bein more connected to the scene. I know she was maturing away from the 'Prince girl' image though.

I wish they would have been able to use the actual concert footage for the SOTT film instead of the staged production with the lip syncing at PP. The audio of those concerts gives a much more energetic feel. They had major weather issues in Europe when trying to film the concerts, and Cat Glover said many fans were holding up signs that said, " Where's Wendy & Lisa??" and "Where is The Revolution??" Yikes!! Cat stated Prince was really pissed off.

lol brings to mind I need to see the Paisley Park show 1989 where Susannah Wendy & Lisa joined the band for a few songs.

Well, you had almost that dream lineup if you mix the encore group on the PR tour with the band on the Parade tour - you'd only have to add David, Novi, Suzi and Cat
