Here's the thing, the associates put shade on their social media, which of course is public and sometimes they are even throwing shade at each other. If they didn't want the fans talking about it, then don't put it out there to the public.

Things start to look calm, and then BAM they put more shade out there. It's playing the fans and their emotions and I think they purposly do it.

And for goodness sakes for the fans who are paying $550-1000 bucks for this Celebration, one would expect the speakers to at least like Prince, and not cuss him or insult him in the last few months, and even say snarky comments about the Celebration....

Yes, this is true. I would never pay that money for a celebration gig so it doesn't affect me.

But then again, he didn't say this in public, we can't and shouldn't think we can dictate what he says in private. What we can do though is not secretly record him and release it to the public.

For me this isn’t about what he said. For me it’s if he really feels that way then he has no business being at the Celebration events.

mmm, but I see no reason to believe this is what he really feels though. Maybe it's just what he was feeling on that day. This is just gotcha fan journalism. If you believe he is acting in bad faith fair enough though, it's all down to our own opinions at this point.

There are people I love whom I've worked with, who were friends and collaborators, with whom I had falling outs, and now, years later, it remains complicated. Peace was made, and there's love and mutual respect, but trust will never be fully reestablished, and we may occasionally talk of it others with either kind or harsh words, depending whom we're talking too and why we're addressing the subject. It's like that, it may seem complicated but it'
s life, and its our business in the end. I would never judge former associates for what they say of Prince. It's their story. And clearly most of them have conflicting feelings. We should respect all those artists who made this musical adventure possible for us to enjoy, and not try to get involved in what is, in the end, their personal matters.

Well that's all fine and dandy, but these associates put things in the public view on their very public social media accounts. If they don't want it public, then why put it on their social media?

Again, Jesse is and has been very vocal about the 'wrongs' Prince did to him. The difference is this time, he was bashing the Celebration that he has been invited to attend to sit on the panel to talk Prince to people who have paid $500-1000 bucks just for tickets, not including airfare, hotel, etc. He doesn't want to do the shit Celebration and live under Prince's banner.....

Now after being called out Jesse is singing a different song on his social media, saying he has love for Prince, they are brothers, etc. etc. etc. sad Hell they hadn't talked for 30 years, so that is some brotherly love.

This isn't about some old interview from the 80's this is what he said a couple of months ago.

He hasn't denied anything in that recording.

And then Jesse reposts the same post as yesterday for today, and where people are commenting 1 person is even calling Prince the N WORD and an asshole. But I don't see Jesse deleting that stuff...

It was a covertly recorded conversation. I'm sure we've all said things in private, in the heat of the moment or in certain contexts, that we later regretted or was not entirely representative of our opinions.

The nature of the recording and how it was extracted and circulated, makes me more uncomfortable than anything Jesse actually said.

Whatever, I find Jesse an interesting artist and performer in his own right and a definite draw to this Celebration. Much of his solo material is excellent.

Hilarious. Are we really going to question what a person on the Cele bill really feels?
Those who've been paying attention know all to well what the real deal is with a number of folks who've been on the Cele bill. Every single year.
Thanking their lucky stars right now that it wasn't their private convos that got uploaded onto youtube.

$, Ego, jealousy, bitterness, family/group dynamics and the stratospheric success of Prince create issues...no big deal. The taping was wrong, maybe he was just talking sh t. But... What did Prince owe Jesse or any of these associates? They knew the deal when they signed up. It wasn’t a group like the Beatles, where everyone shared creatively. Jesse expects Prince to get him rich off a few musical ideas...pleeze. Jesse got huge exposure that enabled him to start a solo career. He barely even played on any Time records. He was in biker bands before Prince gave him a shot and now there is a whole community of fans who know his name. He is an excellent guitarist, but Prince was a genius. Deal with it.

It is a blessing and a curse if you come from the 1978-1988 Prince scene.

I hate the interviewers who in 2000 something still ask them to deep degrees about Prince and 'Is he really a control freak' It's very annoying interviewing. I love to hear about Prince from them too, but the questions are never anything that goes into the artistry or individuality. Just the same 'umbrella' questions. So I can see how it can annoy Jesse. He's done great work after Prince too. But that is not acknowledged.

The only reason we know a Jesse Johnson, Wendy or Eric Leeds is because Prince created a sense of community for bandmates and fans. For example, how many Stevie Wonder fans can breakdown the lives, opinions and quirks of all his associates?

Lets be real here this is also the same thing that is going on with KIRK J. the reality of why KIRKY J has not been at the recent NPG touring shows in the states is the fact that they are worried of the reaction to him from LOYALS, how woud it be if at an NPG concert a whole big thing started with booing and heckling from the crowd that Kirk J was responsible for his death. Cause fact of the matter is, MOST fans feel that Kirk J enabled Prince and thats why he died. But reading what JESSE wrote on this FB quote about PRINCE reaching out, this is the fifth person from the early days of PRINCE that has mentioned Prince reaching out, Morris D said in January of 2016 Prince reached out, Jesse says it now, we know that Lisa Coleman visibly saw Prince and hugged him and thought he is not the same person, his eyes were different etc...and then also Mayte commenting that "people" got in touch with her and said he was not well. SO as much as we blame KIRK or Judith whatever, MANY in this Circle knew Prince had a problem and were covering it up, and I still feel that is why there was no will there was a quick creamation and that was that. Jill speaking of connecting the dots, well I think the reality is that Prince was A LOT more closed off then we think, he may have loved to laugh and perform and go to a party and sit with a beautiful woman, but ALOT of his time he was alone, i think that and not being able to do what you used to do at a certain level, getting older etc....Prince's death was a lot deeper than someone with Hip Pain taking too many, and I think most in the circle know this. But to have this in fighting about stupid trivial stuff is useless, Prince is gone, no matter how many celebrations and reunions, that person is never taking the stage again.

Its a safe gig to play, fans are not going to start anything at PP. It is strange that Kirk is not playing with the NPG at any of the US shows.

Jesse has been complementary about Prince on social media for many years. Also at his gigs, he only had good words to say.

If anything, the taped interview is more out of character for him.

I'm not defending what he says, but it still begs the question who would he have that type of coversation with, did they deliberately raise sore topics (which have been editted out), and why did they record it?

Behind all of this, there seems to be an agenda. If the 'Prince defenders' want honesty, who are they and how did this situation come about?

Has anyone asked the likes of Jill what they think?

Agreed. I think it's quite horrible to record a private conversation and publish it and regardless what is said, I believe people should restrain from commenting it if only because doing so encourages this kind of practice. I'm actually surprised Jesse didn't publicly denounce the person who recorded the conversation (most likely the person he was talking to I guess): if it was done to me, heads would roll publicly.

.

As for those "Prince defenders", or any of those fans who would supposedly boo Kirk Johnson at a concert, who accuse former associates of profiting from P's death by playing live show, take part in all sorts of gossip and personal attacks on various associates, "investigate" on Prince's death from their bedrooms or whatever, I have to say I've always found such behaviors quite disturbing.

.

Passionate as I may be about Prince, his work, his world and his life, I have always been convinced of the fact that we the fans are mere spectators of it all, that we only know what he and the people who knew him have deigned tell us, that we were not there, that this whole story is about Prince and the people he knew, not about us, that we never played any part in it, that we are not to play any part in it, and that it's not our place to behave as if we knew Prince or as if he knew us, or as if his and his associates' life stories were about us. Prince's personal life only really interests me in the sense that gives context and perspective to his work and helps understand it better.

.

So in the end I guess what I'm trying to say is that fans should show some dignity. This is about the music, and the music is the only thing that should concern us. The rest is Prince and the people he knew's business. And the fact that they may share stories or opinions about Prince is actually something we should appreciate in the sense that it helps us understand the narrative of his career better, even if some former associates do not always have kind words.

.

I just wanted to say that because I feel really sorry for Jesse, having had his privacy invaded like that and having total strangers, people he's never met, who are no one to him, soil his name on the internet. But I usually do not take part in threads about those topics and I shall say no more. Let us focus on the music.

.

Peace hug

Let us focus on the music.

.

Peace hug

...riiiiiight, because 4 minutes of out of context, chopped & screwed comments, represents the entirety of a human's feelings/thoughts on a 30+ year relationship. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

well shouldnt he deal with it outright???

...Again, can you hear yourself? Entitled much? He's a better man than me because my statement wouldn't of been no where near as nice if i was in his shoes.
He doesn't owe none of y'all a damn thing.

How about shouldn't the person/s who illegally recorded him, then spliced parts into a 4 min vid, uploaded it onto youtube, & made zero proof claims on Twitter, deal with what they've done outright?

And yet Kirk will be at Celebration and playing drums at the Prince Live on the Big Screen concert at the Armory (like he did last year).

Its a safe gig to play, fans are not going to start anything at PP. It is strange that Kirk is not playing with the NPG at any of the US shows.

Maybe but was he really ever the drummer for the NPG? And I don’t mean someone who filled in when Prince was in between bands.
