Teh only thing wrong about Venus de Milo is that it's too short.

I'd almost agree, but I think that's part of the beauty of VdM: I know I need to stop what I'm doing and savour every note, because it'll be gone just that fast. cloud9

I love how its kind of short, laeving you wanting, waiting...

I love how Prince and Sheila were in seperate rooms, said "1, 2, 3, Go." and that's what showed up. That's a vibe.

What?

I know I'm in a minority, but I like Purple & Gold; particularly when I put it in context and purpose.

It's written as an anthem, not a pop song, and from that aspect, its very effective. From a song writing point of view, it fits the purpose.

Perhaps the production choice jars, needing to be deeper and more bombastic, but from a writing standpoint, its spot on.

It's not supposed to be a single, or album track; its an anthem. A big band could work it very effectively.

I certainly think it delivers purpose more than the likes of 'I Rock, therefore I am' or 'Girl Trouble'.

You're not alone. I like Purple and Gold 2! We are in the minority, but it is exactly what U say, it's an anthem. I see it not as an anthem 2 a sportsteam but as an anthem 2 the NPG community. We are the Purple and Gold! I feel it and I think he had his fans in mind, it's an anthem 4 his following and I followed him 4 over 30 years now!! The Purple and Gold is us....

I just watched the speech Sen Amy Klobuchar made on the Senate floor right after Prince died. donnyenglish posted it in P&R. I never knew he wrote Purple & Gold for the Minnesota Vikings.

Elitist rumblings if the guy doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. If I was in a club or concert yep keep.on keeping on, Sat at home or in the car I usually turn.it off after 6 or so minutes razz

The song isnt exactly about the length. Its about the makings of it and what other seminal purple canon songs came from it, .....and actualy having the Jaimie Starr on wax for all to hear. I mean dman son. The fuck? Did you come into Prince in the Emancipation years? And listening to a song in the car for 6 monutes is actually like listening to two songs so that is saying something. Yes teres no chorus and verse structure as yall are used to but get with it. This is pure vintage Prince were hearing.

Pipe down and get off your high horse rd my first album was 1999 My first gig was 1986 Parade where I queued outside Wembley Arena for hrs for tickets (Purple Rain never visited the UK) I saw 3 Lovesexy gigs Sat through Carmen Electra in '91 biggrin and everything I could in an around. 21 nights I was there playing my leg like the twins.

Every protege, side act you name it I got it. Even got the freakin Taja Sevelle album razz I could go on ad infinitum.

I've paid my dues, btw I never said it was 'Princes worst song' just 6 minutes in the car is enough for me.

Now go pontificate to someone who has no clue.

All said with love from one fam to another bro. cool

Venus De Milo takes up space; so many wonderful 1985/86 songs could have been on Parade. Of course Purple & Gold isn't his best either but it doesn't aspire to be more than it is, a barely released one-off. Wedding Feast and The Plan are also very bad for taking up space on an album, but since the albums are long enough as they are it's not so bad. Parade could have easily been a great double album, so that makes Venus De Milo my worst Prince song.

if that makes any sense smile

I love Venus De Milo, and think it fits perfectly in its place on the Parade album. The sequencing on Parade is genius, everything flows seamlessly and the listener (or myself at least) is swept away with the music. It's perfect.

Wedding Feast is always getting ragged on, but I think that works just the same on The Rainbow Children. I wouldn't call it a favourite like I would Venus De Milo, but I think it's a long way from being his worst track.

Right now, if I had to choose, I would probably say Shutthisdown. But there are plenty or worthy candidates.

- I don't get the hate for NEW POWER SOUL... it's a fantastic party and upebeat album.. exception being the sad (but beautiful) Until Ur In My Arms Again...

I had no idea about it's reasoning when I was younger listening to it.. but it's def one of his greatest tracks. Push it Up is a nice slice of funk.. bit George Clintony

Agreed but the song didn't have to run for like 15 minutes or whatever it is.

If you dig the song it could go on all day, sorry herb. I grew up with Inagaddadavida, 17+ minutes and Rumble 2+ minutes. Now, we are told by the "industry", there are un/acceptable song lengths.

Don't understand best and worst lists anyway, basically an internet bean counting phenom. You either get songs, or you don't imo, and that's your business. Almost didn't post here at all, but CBS being called a "worst" - hell no.
