Answer: I don't know. I haven't even heard many of the songs discussed here.

I bought the 1800-Newfunk CD when it came out and I remember that being the first (and only) time I was really disappointed with a Prince-related release.

Okay, nearly every song he created from 1978 to 1993 wasn't the worst imop.

But at the top of my head, I would say the remake of Everyday is a Winding Road. I was like I love you Prince but stop it you are stretching yourself too thin here. Sheryl did it perfect no need for a reboot. lol

Anybody who doesn't get Cloreen Bacon Skin is missing a whole lot about Prince, and musicians for that matter. That piece of work makes me laugh out loud every time I play it. Your loss.

I you dont like Cloreen you dont understand it being the skeleton for a few seminal Prince songs and vibe in the vintage and best era of the Prince canon..and if you dont like that you really dont have good taste.

Agreed but the song didn't have to run for like 15 minutes or whatever it is.

If you dig the song it could go on all day, sorry herb. I grew up with Inagaddadavida, 17+ minutes and Rumble 2+ minutes. Now, we are told by the "industry", there are un/acceptable song lengths.

Don't understand best and worst lists anyway, basically an internet bean counting phenom. You either get songs, or you don't imo, and that's your business. Almost didn't post here at all, but CBS being called a "worst" - hell no.

Venus De Milo takes up space; so many wonderful 1985/86 songs could have been on Parade. Of course Purple & Gold isn't his best either but it doesn't aspire to be more than it is, a barely released one-off. Wedding Feast and The Plan are also very bad for taking up space on an album, but since the albums are long enough as they are it's not so bad. Parade could have easily been a great double album, so that makes Venus De Milo my worst Prince song.

if that makes any sense smile

I don't mind long songs at all but that particular one was a one off, comedic SKETCH of song where Prince was just fucking around, jamming and being silly. It's not exactly She's Always in My Hair, America or an Erotic City 12 inch that was just dying for further exploration. And i'm not sure why the animosity towards listing favorite (or least favorite) artists or the thigns they create.

Also, surprised no one's brought up Courtin Time yet.

The topic is worst, not least favorite.

How does don't understand turn into animosity? Isn't that kind of hyperbolic? batting eyes

I'd almost agree, but I think that's part of the beauty of VdM: I know I need to stop what I'm doing and savour every note, because it'll be gone just that fast. cloud9

I find it weird that all of these threads about "the worst from Prince".. strange / weird why these are so POPULAR???

hmmm eek confused

Personally I dislike Purple & Gold the most,

however (damn) I love the threads here on the Org better - threads about the fascinating aspects of Prince, I love these a lot better..

I feel like "Tricky" pretty much covers it.

.

It's like the 20-30 minute extended I Would Die 4 U. I mean sure they're nice to have and all ("process" and all) but I think the song/groove itself was pretty much covered in the initially released edit.

The only song that's ever made me actively sad is Undisputed. It's so cynical and half-hearted. Rave is a good album but the first two songs might be among the worst openers in Prince's discography and I actually like the title track a bit. But oof.
