Question the “Love Symbol” album! (The use of the place holder name) Is this name an “official”
place holder name? I’ve always just assumed it was a meme that became accepted but see that it’s named Love Symbol on Spotify. Why not just write it as 0{+>? Surely the use of “Love symbol” as a name is only useful when verbalised? How and when did the term “Love Symbol” become accepted? I was wondering that too the other day when I was trying to find it to make a playlist. I wasn't sure what to type in the search box and 'Love Symbol' didn't pull it up. I searched under The NPG and it was listed with their albums but I saw there was no official title for the album. It's listed as 'Prince & The New Power Generation' on Tidal. It was called that at least from it's release. I remember reading the charts in the newspaper (ask your parents), and it was listed either as "love symbol" or "androgynous". |

It was listed as 'Love Symbol" on an online CD store where I got the physical copy but it's not listed under that title on Tidal but is on Spotify. | |

Thank you. That clears is up, the name came from in-house originally. I’ve always verbalised it as “Symbol” or “The Symbol album” If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it! | |

If you take a look at the flipside of the Peach /My Name is Prince 45" single you will see that it´s called "Love Symbol" there. It says "From the Love Symbol album". That is , as far as I know, the closest thing to an "official" statement regarding the album´s title. But years ago some people here corrected me and told me that that was a decision made by WEA Germany and not to be taken too seriously, so what do I know?

The glyph is intended to be a “sex” symbol obvioisly .. prince wanted to be known as “the sex symbol” ... the “love” symbol is the tame version after selling dnp to grammas everywhere they had to tame their rhetoric to keep that gramma money coming in | |

Interesting. Not sure whether Prince had cared to personally approve this catalogue and the comic, but I'm not aware of any case where he personally pronounced the symbol. Clearly, from the very beginning, "Love Symbol" was commonly accepted as the pronunciation, but I could never figure out whether this originally came from Paisley Park's PR department, WB's PR department, or the media. Clearly, someone had to make that up back before PP issued the So, given that Prince never said anything about the title (that I know of) but later made a point that the symbol had no spelling or pronunciation whatsoever when he made it his name, I consider "Love Symbol" to be inaccurate. Given that Windows does not allow the character ">" in folder titles, I simply titled it "Symbol" on my drive since, after all, it is a symbol. Record stores at the time would usually list it on the shelves as 'Love Symbol' and rarely 'Androgynous'. . .
I use O(+7 (with a seven for the >) in folder names. Not perfect, but close visually. | |
