So Eric Leeds is lying when he said that Prince told him to go into the vault and compile a new Madhouse album in August 1989?

He could be. It's not like former associates are always telling the truth.

PREEEACH!

My thoughts:

-This thoroughly explains why the investigation photos look the way they do with the old school stuff in the vault like notes from the 90s or a little later maybe still hung up with instructions from people who hadn’t been there for years and the “opium” bag etc. during Prince’s more jokester years. To think those investigators were probably the first to crack that thing in 15 or more years, wow.

- Prince was too busy saving the world to be going back into time by going down into that vault all the time to “get old music out”.

- It’s a figure of speech “pulled from the vault”. “found in the vault.” “taken from the vault.” Lol! He didn’t need to actually go downstairs into it to get the music out that he himself wrote in order to remember it or rework it. Do you remember what your children look like when they’re not around for a while? Of course you do. Especially if you hear them all the time on the phone (in his case the stereo).

- what he said on Arsenio Hall in 2014 was true. He didn’t lie; he just said he didn’t know how much music was down there. He said a million times he didn’t go back and that he worked on it and brought it as far as he could and then that was it. He did the rest automatically from memory and heart.

- If he really forgot the combo to the vault then he also forgot Maytes measurements. Or much more likely he changed the combination after she was gone and he remarried, and then forgot that code.

Yes, I believe the vault was a thing of the past for him just as much as so many other things he left behind so he could progress. One of my favorite quotes of his: “I make a statement then I move on.”

I mean...he was putting music somewhere the last few years as Hit N Run 1 and 2 were all vault releases basically. As well...remember that was the ONLY place his music was wink

Sorry... I don;t think that happened. In the almost 30 years at PP, don't you think Prince ever had his locks changed?? So if Prince had access to a locksmith, dont you think he would of used it to open it?What more could of he put in there any way? He had othe location in PP for music.

Still wondering what the source was for this. Personally, I think it's total bollocks.

Didn’t Andy Allo say she had free reign in the Vault?

She told she accessed it and pulled out We Can Fuck and reworked it into Oui Can Luv with Prince. So the Vault was still accesible.

Isn't it more likely she heard the version from Graffiti Bridge (or at a push Purple Rain Deluxe) rather than having her rummage through the vault to hear a track he'd officially released?

I think 'the Vault' in this case is shorthand for 'classic track'
blah blah blah

Already said this.

According to the person who is cataloging some of the contents of the Vault, there were recordings from the W2A sessions from 2010,a few unreleased songs from Superconductor and recordings from Phase 2 there.

Prince also said in the last interview with Ebony that he had held back some of the recordings for Phase 2 until he had other songs that would go with them and that "Black Muse' was the oldest on the album. There were at least three recordings of the song there. If he was locked out,it would have had to have happened more recently but I'm doubting it happened at all.

No,a fan was cataloging what they could from the photos that were taken for the investigation. They made a page for it to keep up with updates. The link was posted in a thread in April about the photos taken of the Vault and they had the recordings with dates and where they took place that Prince or someone had written on the cases. They had recordings from at least '82-2013 listed. Listing of a mix of 2Y.2D with "Joss vocals" and "Time" (uptempo)

There was also a Glam Rock version of "If I Was King" listed along with "Mr. Bravestrong" and "Father/Mother" by Andy. There were also listings for "Big City","Groovy Potential" and "When She Comes" They had the date of the recording from W2A listed for the latter. The link to the page is on p.5 of this thread in reply #137 www.prince.org/msg/7/453925?&pg=5

Prince has always said there are vaults in the plural. I think that we put too much emphasis on the physical vault at Paisley when the majority of his unreleased music from the last 20 years was probably stored somewhere else. We have a lot of the unreleased music from his first 15 years. We have not scratched the surface on his last 20 years.

It's probably true that there was music stored in other locations but I think that he likely had the masters of the recordings in the vault. Such as what he said about some of the songs on Phase 2 and what appeared to be the case for Welcome 2 America.
