The breakdown of "I Got The..." by Labi Siffre makes me think of the opening guitar licks and horns of "People Pleaser." The latter also brings to mind "Rain Dance" by Jeff Lorber.

Christopher Cross/Michael Omartian's 'Words of Wisdom' (1983) -> 'Purple Rain', the instrumental portions thereof.

.

The first 22 seconds, and then from ~3:54 to close, of 'Words of Wisdom', sound alarmingly familiar. Those symphonic purple tribute covers haven't nailed it as closely.

.

eek hell yes, Purple Rain was stolen too! Incredible.
There was still a blueprint song of Sexy MF or one of Kiss, I'm not sure anymore, but that was so extremely resembling while being 15 years or so younger. It was posted years ago in another topic.

never be afraid to use the correct words.

Or will we perhaps introduce the S-word if we want to say 'stolen'?

^^ Prove Prince stole songs deliberately. Otherwise it's just smearing.

Sheila - One Day (im gonna make you mine) - New World.
I know, I know. kinda cheating but it made me jump when I heard the background keys playing pretty much the New World melody. (catch it closer to the end of the tune)

Kiss sounded very much like Helene Smith's "You Got To Be a Man" as mentioned on the org some years ago.

I'm just becoming familiar with her. Somewhere Here On Earth reminds me of Somewhere Not Here by Alpha. I seem to remember that Prince also played them back to back on a 3rd Eye TV stream. After listening,Valerie's song does sound very similar, especially the opening.

Maybe for the bluesy parts... but the other parts sound a lot like Stop! by Jane's Addiction (the resemblance starts around the 0:28 mark on Jane's Addiction's song).

Who would have thunk that an electrifying, era-defining headlining song and the project it spearheaded was an elaborate and faithful cover of an ageing, fading, balding and portly artist's obscure album track, with no credit attribution.

It's because when you pick up an electric guitar that type of a thing played on it is among the first things that sound good to you, is really easy to play and is instantly gratifying.

Honestly, I can remember playing the same type of stuff on the electric guitar and on my small Marshall amp for hours when I started out. It's essentially just an octave and a fifth that are picked fast.

I'm not saying it's a rip-off, but I've wondered if this had a influence on Prince writing and recording "Insatiable".

The way the drums sound on the recording and the sparseness of the notes played on the piano, juxtaposed with the dramatic strings just automatically make me think of "Insatiable" (not to mention, the titles are pretty close to each other!).
