"Purple Rain" Video Mystery?

Riddle me this? What's Prince's arguably most famous song? "Purple Rain."

Now we all know the estate goes after people putting Prince videos and such on their own channel.

With all that said, why is the only place to see Prince's "video" of Purple Rain not on his own You Tube channel. But instead it's on the channel of someone who calls himself "The Codfather" where it has, by far, more views than any other Prince video?

Why is this?

P.S. I'm not giving away any secret information. It has over 97 million views and has been on his channel for over 2 years AND it's consistently the very first result when you simply put "Prince" into You Tube?

Dude has three videos. One has 31K views; one has 7.5K views; one has 97,000,000 views. And he has 107,217 subscribers. What the Sam Hill are they subscribing to?

Someone explain YouTube to me.

Salmon must know what's going on here. I'll definitely mullet over. I like the bass in the video. One of the comments said that Prince was a shrimp. So rude. Anyway, I won't carp on about this anymore.

Seriously, people don't know there is no Purple Rain video?
What you see online are clips from the film. Not videos.
Now, any more stupid questions?

First of all, why do you think I put the word video in quotations? Do you understand quotations? Secondly the estate did have this quote-unquote video up before and took it off. Thirdly even though it's a clip why is it on the codfather? And fourthly you're stupid if you can't understand quotations.

Um, there is a video version with slightkly different additional sounds like his heels clicking when he walks to the mic and some other sounds that isn't in the movie version. That version of the video is the one I always see when it is shown on music programs in Holland.

I still hope someone can explain how this dude has three videos, and one has 96,961,500 movre views than the other two combined. And what those 107K subscribers mean. Are there really 107K people subscribed to his account? I guess I can see how that is, if it's 107K people who saw the "Purple Rain" video and thought, "Aha! I shall subscribe here for all Prince videos. Can't wait for the 'Hey Hannigan' video!"

Does/did this dude make money from those 97,000,000 views? 1/10 of a cent would still be nearly $100K, right?

I am a bit confused about how many versions exist.

I am told the version on the PR anniversary edition DVD is without the spoken intro but I'm sure when it was aired on MTV Europe in the early 90's, it included the spoken intro about the song being by WéL and so on.

I am also a bit confused about the sound fx differences you mention: you mean those sound fx are on the Dutch TV version but not on the YT version discussed here? Are those sound fx in the movie? And does the Dutch TV version contain the spoken intro?

.

As for why the video isn't on the YT channel I would assume it's because it's the property of WB films (being a scene from the movie), and the Estate won't pay them royalties (or can't even upload it at all for legal reason). It has, however, been used as a promo video on TV ever since 1984, WB or not.

I haven't checked the anniversary DVD in a while but the version on dutch TV I saw ever since the 80's is a version with heavy film grain and specks, so I assume it was a promo lifted from teh movie, I can;'t remember what it sounded like when I saw it in the theater back then tho.
The dutch tv version doesn't contain the intro it just starts with Wendy's guitar then Prince walks to the mic and you hear his heels clicking and the chains rattling on his coat when he walks.

When he grabs his guitar when striking a chord you hear a click as if a ring clicks on teh body of the guitar. That kind of sound fx.

If it is, in fact, the property of WB films, why would they let The Codfather sell it off as his own "video" with almost 100 million views and it being the very first thing that comes up when you put "Prince" into YouTube?
