Not donig that at all. However, he clearly was not doing well, and it is likely that he also knew that.

I do believe that Prince knew his body VERY well. He knew it was breaking down and possibly had a six sense of him not having much time left. But that doesn’t mean he wanted to die or commit suicide! Like some other rude person here is trying to insinuate were saying. He had MANY plans and he wasn’t done on earth yet.

Agree 100%. The overdose was accidental. He didn't know what he was taking He was also going to get help sad sad sad

Youre saying what I said and denying what you meant of what YOU said.

Agreed. I personally don't think his decision to do the P&M tour in 2016 was random. The Piano was the first instrument he played, and it became his last to play for his fans. Beautiful

Either way, its not a big deal.

I don't know this for a fact but wasn't the decision related, at least in parts, to his illness? Sitting on a piano was likely to cause less pain than jumping and dancing while playing the guitar. He also played the keys instead of the guitar in his last few band shows with Neon and Kirk (and I so wish we'd had more of that, for he was amazing at the keys).

Yes, Loved him on keys! biggrin razz cool And all the other instruments too! eye music

Out of all of his released albums, is there a consensuse that Piano & Mic 1983 would be in the bottom 5?

I can’t rank it. There’s some really beautiful music in it, but I don’t feel any urge to listen to it. That very rarely happens with Prince’s albums for me (even with Plectrum Electrum I had four or five songs that I played compulsively on repeat for weeks after the album was out). And I can’t listen to it with my (fairly decent) headphones, because of the hissing noise (I don’t want to argue with anyone, that argument has already taken place on this thread, but to me it’s incredibly distracting).
I’ve had very little interest in this release since day one, and I haven’t changed my mind now that it’s out. But the reviews have been excellent and a lot of fans are enjoying it, so I guess in the end it’s down to each person’s taste...

I recognize that my bottom 5 probably contains a few albums that are in the top 5 for others, but Batman, C-Note (a fine release, but I just don't listen to it much), Slaughterhouse, The Vault, and Piano & Mic 83 would be my bottom 5. I'm pretty sure that Piano & Mic 83 would make my bottom 2. It would be a fine bonus disc, but either the decision makers are that far out of touch with both hard core and casual fans or this is an attempt by WB to de-value the vault to gain leverage.

as a musician, i appreciate the rawness of it... just a dude at his instrument doing his thing... with some really special (to me) moments along the way

i don't think it's an earth shattering album... but it does, in parts, showcase his talent ... and is something different for those that didn't have it before

and the bacon skin style of cold coffee and cocaine brings a huge smile to my face

I don't think you can fairly call it a Prince album, or even compare it to the ones he released. The posthumous collections are separate in my eyes.

Maybe you could compare them if it comes out that the vault contains specific, personally compiled albums for release, with detailed (and final) tracklists and cover art (these exist according to some former associates), but even then, we can't be totally sure they are executed with 100% respect to his artistic vision, because he is not here to oversee it.

Agreed. We know he would not have put this out, so can't really compare it to his releases. Will have to wait and compare it to future releases.

Hmm. Geee...

Wouldn't this commercialisation of his music lead to overexposure?

Or are the Estates thinking that they will not soon do anything with PR-era materials?

Are they thinking at all?

Yeah, but that's a good problem to have...being that even his bad stuff is better then most GREAT stuff from other artists in comparison. It's like saying which CHEETAH in the pack run the slowest...

I just read it somewhere, but can't remember who said that: Prince was always struggling about the idea of himself - to be multimillion selling pop star or to be the worlds greatest cult star.
I suspect this release shows the direction the estate has in mind - and it might be they are takin the cult star route. Directed to hardcore music fans.
If that's the aproach that will be - i like it.
Thou there will surely be several releases that might make it hard to get that image going. I'm starimg more than supiciously at the eyes of forthcoming jay z release...

Goldnigga is not a Prince album. Interesting that 2of the albums you name are instrumentals.

I'd say bottom 6 or 7 for me . I do.not like jazz instrumentals like karma sutra , xpectation, c-note, n.e.w.s. Gold nigga is also bad . You have to place it definately in bottom 10 at least in terms of enjoyment & entertainment as it is such a boring release. Bland packaging as well on the cd . Can they not afford colour photos.
