I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Sometimes It Snows In April. Another track that comes to mind is One of Your Tears. Neither one of these is his darkest track, but they both have dark themes.

Thats why we didnt mention them lol. Plus, they arent dark, theyre somber.

I stand corrected on SISIA; somber is the perfect word to describe it.
.
OOYT is dark and heavy. The speaker’s woman has betrayed him by sleeping with another man. As a result, the speaker is so heartbroken that he is contemplating suicide. He doesn’t feel that his life is worth living anymore.
.
Did you get the tape I sent you
I thought it be better in a song
Better than the used condom you sent me
Baby that was wrong
All the things a brother had to picture
I see him doing things with you
I see his hand in the small of your back
I see his face in between
The king and queen in fact
Sometimes I want to die and comeback as one of your tears
If I could just disappear
Cease to exist
Cease to be here
Want me
You don't want me, I'm not worth the air that I breathe
I wish I could disappear
Sometimes I want to die and comeback as one of your tears
(Shoodebedotedoom)
I'm dying

[Outro]
Sometimes I want to die and comeback as one of your tears
Sometimes I want to die and comeback as one of your tears

Dance with the devil. When I was on the PP tour in 2000...Femi was in Studio A telling Us about P recording. He said When P recorded Dance with the Devil it scared him and he erased the tape. I don’t know if he knew everybody in the room probably already heard it. So I don’t know if he re-recorded it or maybe he kept a cassette. Never really understood that story, but I agree.

I listened to this song for the first time about 45 min ago while driving. It has to be his darkest track. As dark as Papa is, there is a little bit of redemption at the end of Papa:
Don't abuse children, or else they turn out like me

Fair to partly crazy, deep down we're all the same
Every single one of us knows some kind of pain
In the middle of all that's crazy, this one fact still remains
If you love somebody, your life won't be in vain
And there's always a rainbow, at the end of every rain

.
Going back to DWTD, what strikes me more than even the bleakness and darkness of the track is how ahead-of-it’s-time that it was. Per Prince Vault, It was recorded in February 1989. However, it sounds like a song from 1992 or 1993. The beats and the horns on it are very early 90s-sounding. The track is yet another example of how Prince was a musical genius who was often so ahead of his time. As dark as DWTD is, I hope that it is officially released at some point. It’s a masterful track that deserves an official release.

"Others Here With Us".

Other contenders don't come close.
"Dance With The Devil" is nothing special musically speaking (Prince messing with a sampler
ends up sounding childish most of the time, see "People Without"), and so the lyrics don't come across as they should.
The fact that it was written around the Batman (Joker) concept, heck, movie dialog, negates the sincerity of it.

"Papa" comes close, but it's the other way around: it's too much crafted, it's too musical,
and the ending comes across as musical nonsense (there's a whole thread to be made
about Prince's ridiculous ways to end some of his songs).

But "Others", you can tell it's fucking sincere. Some wealthy acquaintance
must have persuaded him to have a spiritism session, and Prince obviously got really, really scared.
The anguish in it is pure.
Life is sublime? Yeah, sudden infant death and suicide. More like a Parade.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

I agree it's one of his darker songs. It could almost qualify as a suicide note.

I just listened to DWTD (and read the back story - duh - lol) and I think it's a strong contender (for darkest song). Wow.

I always had a problem with Come the album, because it's so fucking depressing all along.

"No more will you cry" — Right from the start, orgasm is not fun per se, it's a cure for sadness.
"Space" is escapism: things are so shitty down on earth, let's leave it.
"Pheromone" is bleak S.M.
"Loose" is 'I don't give a fuck'.
"Papa" is child abuse.
"Race" is about cutting yourself to check the absence of difference, claims we're nothing but walking skeletons.
"Dark" is about being dumped.
"Solo" is pure depression.
"Letitgo" is pure depression pt. II.
and "Orgasm" is Prince admitting he has a blank page crisis, and ends on a "I Love U"
that couldn't be more detached from the feeling.

The photograph that shot this period mentioned the possibility of Prince being depressed at the time.
The whole artwork is plain morbid, the Sagrada Familia at night is a visual nightmare.
Black day, stormy night. No love, no hope in sight.

Yes, that bright n breezy music wouldn't make you think it was dark.

He was funny/clever like that; dark lyrics with upbeat music and vice versa.

.

Papa (the first half, anyway) is the first song that comes to mind. Especially as there's rumoured to be an autobiographical angle to it.

On the surface level, "Bob George" really offends non Prince fan, and even scares them into saying it is too weird and drug induced. I am a witness.

I was going to say this one too, but aside from the voice, it's more of a caricature than anything else.

I wondered, why would Prince perform this on the Lovesexy tour (or any Black Album content) if it was so dark that it got pulled from release?

Bob George was a major part of the narrative of the Lovesexy show. The death and rebirth.

Therein lies a big contradiction that still leaves some of us questioning
the sincerity of the ecstasy pill epiphany. Not to mention the references in the Tour Book.

I mean, for someone who made his record company destroy half a million records,
he sure was promoting it. But there's half a million threads on the org about it.

Dance with the devil is an okay song, but it is highly répétitive, and lack a Real chorus to be really engaging.

The end of Onedayi'mgonnabesomebody played in reverse is the most frightening thing on any Prince related project in my opinion.

It sound's like demons or hobgoblins laughing followed by the words "Here we come for you!"
