Come, it's an album filled with what I love most, these are pretty dark songs, the tone is dark:

Still the music is so fresh and very energetic.

The title song is incredible, and has to be the longest Prince song ever released officially(?)

Space, Papa, Dark and Letitgo.. and Pheromone and Loose as well... so many favorite songs.

The trio Come- Exodus- The Gold Experience, such an excellent era... but of course the slave fight with Warner took away some of the attention..

These slave "albums", they were amazing.. the problems began for me with the plastic rNb Emancipation, it was a shock to hear this kind of music right behind the excellent Gold album, such a big change in sound.....

to me 1993-95 is another high point in Prince's career, try to listen to THE DAWN bootleg 3cd- alternative versions and mixes, strong all the way..

Although Orgasm was too much to handle, (on Come!), maybe "Empty Room" would have suited the space as a nice closer of the Come album instead...?? Or, "Lovesign" could have been a nice single, and should maybe have been on the album??

9/10, maybe even 9.5/10 from me to Come!

the way i listen to come is:

01. Come [early version]
02. Space
03. What's My Name?
04. Pheromone
05. Loose!

06. Papa
07. Race
08. Dark
09. Lovesign [original]
10. Solo
11. Letitgo
12. Strays Of The World

'empty room' was on 'chaos and disorder' for a hot minute before prince took it off,
wasn't it?

the way i listen to chaos is:

01. Chaos and Disorder

02. I Like It There

03. Dinner With Delores

05. Calhoun Sq
06. Zannalee

07. Into The Light

Nice. I like Love Sign but would be a bit out of place on Come IMO
.
Empty Room would have been cool on C&D. I'm still stunned by Pvault's info that it was recorded in 85 and that recording was used for the 94 video version. It always had that 94/95 NPG sound to me. I guess after seeing the video on the big screen before the Gold tour shows it's locked in that era

so true. i guess that's why there was so much confusion for so long about the 85 version lol
when all along the 94 one WAS the 85 one eek

for me too, empty room, felt completely like a 1994/1995 song.

Agreed. It could have fit on TGE thouigh, particularly in its original, 1994 form. It was sort of a hit in France in the summer on 1994, no single of course but lots of airplay for the song and video. In a parallel world where TGE would have been released in August 1994, it would have made sense to add it as it, and TMBGITW, were popular songs. But apparently Prince never considered any such thing, it was definitely a 1-800 New Funk exclusive.

it could have possibly replaced 'we march'? but i agree, it doesn't fit 100% on an alternate 'come',
no matter how you sequence it, but i sort of put it in there to keep the whole thing from being SO
dark and negative lol although Lovesign with it's positive message does narrate about dark and
depressing subjectmatter too.

Yes, Love Sign got a bit of attention in the UK as well. I think he would have had a hit with it if WB didn't block it.
.
I remember it got a glowing review in the Smash Hits magazine and the video was shown on a morning tv show. Also, the fact it was a duet with Marvin Gaye's daughter was a talking point

yeah, i know. but albums are marred. but i can also listen to them both as they were released.
there are a few not so good songs and the sequencing is a bit weird in places. but the good cuts

Late to the party but...

Your configuration of Choas & Disorder is almost exactly the same as mine. Really works well doesn't it. Only difference is I swap Da Bang (to a b-side) with The Ride.

Your configuration for Come is similar too. Just woken up so too tired to remember exact config I have but I know I don't include Lovesign but do include Interactive. Having What's My Name and Strays of the World makes Come a more complete album.

Love the Come album but it could have been even better. Personally could live without the segues.

Strays for me is cringeworthy. I have no idea what he was thinking with these type of corny songs. I play Come for Solo alone for sometimes.

To me, Come, Solo, Pheromone and Letigo suggested Prince still had new creative things up his sleeve.

One of the first songs on that album that clicked with me, it's quite basic overall but its musically... nimble! I like the big turn around at the end as well.

I can't appreciate Come alone (recorded laughs).

To me, it's always been The Dawn, some sort of Dream Factory of the nineties.
This album tracklist is really too dark, as it is.

I need some Chaos and Disorder with it,
plus a bone to hide and some Golden Dolphins in Calhoun Square,
the place where we all forget his name, so he asks again.
36 tracks, the first (original? only?) Emancipation manifesto.

Otherwise it's just too bleak.
But good songs throughout, and a real, menacing reinvention:
More Thanatos than Eros. "Papa", "Solo" and "Letitgo" are some deep personal shit,
he's never been that dark and so blatantly autobiographic. It really is a disturbing album to me,
TBA is gloomy, very dark but fun, but Come really sounds like depression, even at its funkiest.

And considering what he was going through with WB,
the last tracklist must have a meaning, even if "Orgasm" placed last would like us
to believe that this is some sort of sensual-concept album, but it's just
Prince's modesty trying to erase "Letitgo" from our ears.

But too late, you said it:
For years you've been slowed down by a parachute,
Now it's time to let it go: all that glitters ain't gold.
Let's go back underground.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

And since there are at least 3 versions of "COME", does that electronic dance version have a name? I know there was #1 and #2 for a long time, but I forget which one was which. There is the other version which is much closer to the album version (that I used on COME AGAIN).

Yea that’s her from TBE special, and I suppose it could be her on Come, but it kinda has that thin, whiny (no shade), Mayte-esque tone quality to me.

Where is the 'when the fire comes will everyone burn?' part?

it's at the start of the 'electronic' version. the short one.

And since there are at least 3 versions of "COME", does that electronic dance version have a name? I know there was #1 and #2 for a long time, but I forget which one was which. There is the other version which is much closer to the album version (that I used on COME AGAIN).

Just had a listen; the ‘electronic’ version with Nona whispering at the beginning is from The Beautiful Experience movie.
.
The 10,000 Wallpaper version is similar but not so electronic
.
The other version similar to the album version I’ve got labelled as ‘Straight Remix.’ Don’t know if that’s its official title or just fan made. If it is fan made in any way don’t tell databank

So, nobody likes "Solo"??? I love that song. I think it is extremely personal to him based on th story of how it came to be recorded, and the lyric, "I'm so low, solo, my name is no one" to me indicates his decision to change his name to the symbol. I also like "Orgasm", because I think it was written based on a specific event for him, given that the credit for the female lyric - even though it was originally Vanity - is "she knows". It is intense, but very personal. I think the entire album is extremely personal, and also represents a very dark period for him. I like all of it.
