“We’re pleased that those who worked closely with Prince trust us to respectfully present these items for them at auction,” said Bob Eaton, CEO of RR Auction. “These are people who were intimately part of his life, and they do not relinquish these carefully selected mementos without sober consideration for his legacy.

“Our consignors will keep their decades-long cherished memories of Prince, but share their items with his fans, because they know they will be equally valued and loved by them for decades as well,” Eaton said.

Nearly 100 Prince-related items will be included in the auction, including musical instruments (piano, tambourines) and stage-used items; lots of personally worn jewelry, clothing, makeup and accessories; incredible handwritten lyrics – some to unrecorded songs; acetates and albums; unpublished, candid, vintage and performance photographs, negatives and slides; posters and promotional items; personal notes and cards; and other exciting glimpses into the private world of Prince.

Highlights include a purple piano he loved to play; handwritten lyrics (in purple pen) to the unreleased song “Go”; Prince's personally owned and worn purple ruffled long-sleeve custom-made shirt from the “Purple Rain” era; and a “Graffiti Bridge” script hand-edited by Prince.

Marvels of Modern Music features more than 800 items from all genres of music, with all the legendary names of the past century. Bidding will be live July 12-19; preview all items now at www.rrauction.com.

Selling some of these things is disgusting to me. Why auction a copy of his passport? Does his family really need the money? Shred that shit and make your money from the vault.

Agree. Collectors are super nitpicky about preservation. One of the reasons there are so many antiquities, such as ancient coins, jewelry and paintings still around.

I don't know, I guess they have to do something with the stuff he left behind, but it just makes me sad.
