The interview said $16 million. Going to be developed into 200 homes ranging in size from 2,000 sq. feet to over 4,000 sq. feet. Beautiful property. I suspect he bought it as an investment rather than one of his special projects (hospital, day care, etc.).

Those homes will bring in dollars to support common services too. So indirectly, it will support projects and programs that were important to him. And help to off set the losses in the estate settlement.

It sure is beautiful land. Watch the interview.

(No commercial use of Prince's affiliation though per Estate. No street names.)

In regards to the Galpin property being developed. Prince heirs have asked the city to not allow any Prince trademarks in the development.

Which means no street names, nothing. sad

This pisses me off, his family won't even let them honor him on the property he owned and paid taxes on for years.

All the heirs want is money, money, money.

I’m glad they said no. That would’ve been so cheesy. What point was there for the family to keep the land? Of course all of this could have been avoided if he had a will.

Prince's family should have reached out to his music more

Hear me out here. Prince, bless his heart, related to folks through music. He (in cryptic ways) opened up in his music. It may sound selfish but it was how he truely communicated; it was where he felt at home. A music studio without music can probably seem cold. With music flowing through it, it is not. . Their lack of knowledge or reverence for his work might be why he wasn't particularly close to them. I suspect that one of the reasons that he and his father (as off-and-on as their relationship was) were probably closer than he ever was with his siblings stems from this fact. I say that his siblings needs to get to know his music, should have let him produce their work (Tyka) when he was alive, should get to know their brother better through his work now, and through the stories from his associates. After all, the siblings are reaping the benefits now. I think they kind of owe that to him. They would protect his legacy and be better in charge of his estate if they did. I understand if they felt he rejected them but I don't imagine that was his intent. Here is a man who worked his butt off to connect to others through his art and his half-sister can't name any song other than Purple Rain as her favorite. If he knew that, I imagine it didn't offer much hope in his heart to communion with his blood. Maybe, he would have asked more about their lives if they had asked a bit more about his. Its time to bridge that gap. It was a shame it wasn't bridged before. Its like an autistic person being expected to stop being autistic. To reach a person like that, you have to understand how they communicate. You might then get them out of their shell a bit more if you do; you might get them to do a few normal things. To hear Sharon say that she thought P wasn't doing anything when she was at work in that year or so he stayed with her..only for to recently find out he had been giving the kids in her apartment complex music lessons--that fact says a lot about the unspoken gaps in his family.

The family doesnt have much say in anything right now.

Most of the decisions are being made by Comerica.

So Funkenberry is contradicting the mayor and says the family wants street names on the new Galpin property to be Prince related.

I think the Mayor trumps funkenberry, but maybe the family had a change of heart. I doubt it though.

It is beautiful property. The Chanhassen area is very well maintained. My sis-in-law lives right down the road in Chaska. Same story there. She says people for the most part would be delighted with some whimsical Prince references. Hopefully the family agrees. I'm a little surprised they aren't considering or allowing/encouraging more businesses for the property - like a proper hotel - something there is a lack of in the srea.

Seriously, luv4u? How can you possibly think that locking a thread about a Rolling Stone article that was published today, and contains new information, and linking instead to PART 15 OF THE ESTATE DISCUSSION makes any sense?

It's like the Org moderators go out of their way to make sure that any interesting information gets buried. It boggles the mind.

Annnnnnyway, this article was depressing, because it really does sound like the estate has absolutely no clue what they're doing when it comes to releasing music. One release a year, going chronologically by year and starting in 1983 for no specific reason? Huh?

And damn, Tyka comes across as such an idiot in this. So she's saying that Prince wouldn't want "let's Go Crazy" to be used in a sex scene in a movie because he'd prefer to have something like "Darling Nikki" or "Do Me, Baby" used instead? And not because he wouldn't want his music used during a Hollywood sex scene, period?

Also, the writer of this article is very lazy. The estate already has deals with various retailers for clothing (see Hot Topic and Target), and the estate has been licensing the hell out of his music (for use in TVs and movies) since the day he died. In fact, "Let's Go Crazy" was very strangely used in an action scene in that "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" movie that came out last year. Very, very disjointed and odd.

So the mod wanted us to talk about this here.

- 8000 cassettes were mailed to Iron Mountain from Paisley. One of those tapes was the Piano & A Microphone 83 release. Just imagine what gold could be on those other 7,999 tapes.
- - The vault material has all been transferred to digital, but it’s still in the midst of being listened to and cataloged. It’s no easy task: The material is stored in every format, from Seventies analog tapes to hard drives to cassette tapes. According to Howe, anywhere from 10 to 30 percent of all the music shipped to the vault was unlabeled or mislabeled.
- Tyka Nelson says the estate is hoping to unveil a new collection of unreleased music every year, in chronological order, although she says fans shouldn’t rule out hearing pre-1983 recordings at some point.
- Wants to release everything. Thinks he wanted it to be heard if he saved it.
- Plans to license his music out to movies/tv.
- A line of new Prince merchandise overseen by Bravado, the Universal-owed merchandise company, is also kicking into gear this year.
- Tyka says the estate is finalizing a deal with a “large retailer” that will sell Prince clothing and merchandise in the near future.

Let’s see what happens. I’m not convinced Tyka is the one running the show, though she might ultimately have final say on what gets released. My guess is Carter and Howe are really running things, at least on the musical side. Also the idea that everything in the vault should be released because he wouldn’t have kept it if he didn’t want it out is nonsense. She better get overruled on that. As much as Prince recorded there’s no way all of it is great. The estate shouldn’t put out anything where the consensus is it’s mediocre.

Yes, Tyka has been consistently wrong throughout. So the good news is that if Tyka says it, then count on the opposite to happen. The Prince community has to learn that she just likes to talk. It means nothing. Avoid. As for Carter, pull your finger out mate. We get it. You've found some great things. Good for you. Boring for us. Do something about it.

Did she specifically say that they'd start chronologically in 1983 and go forward from there? That makes no sense at all lol and yet somehow, I hope she's right, because I really don't want to wait several years to hear official releases of the 84-87 material (although I probably will anyway at this rate)

It kinda makes sense. You start in his most popular time period and attempt to expand the public's mind with each release moving forward. I wouldn't be half surprised if 1984 Birthday Show was the next official release.
