I dislike celebrating the anniversary of his leaving. But the estate, family, powers that be insist upon making a big deal this time of year soooo I waited until today to watch the newly released rehearsal footage video and early studio recording of Nothing Compares To You. And then I ugly cried. I tend to celebrate him every day. He, his music, is sort of woven into the fabric of my life. Most recently I've been listening to The Purple Current.

It wasn't exactly a celebration, but i remembered him as i always do. Listened to 'One Nite Alone' and 'Rainbow Children' and looked at my cd collection.

.

I spent the day listening to his music and remembering various times from my Prince journey: my first memory of hearing his songs; the first time I was lucky to see him live; the friend who originally introduced me to his music and the many friends that I've been able to introduce in the 30+ years since then and the wonderful times we've had together because of him.

.

I was lucky enough to have a Prince Party close by in my city (Brighton, UK) and so a friend and I spent the evening with many other like-minded Princeophiles dancing and singing to some super funky tunes.

.

For me it's not a time to be sad and mourn what we've lost but to spend focus on the incredible gift he shared with us all through his life and to be mindful and thankful for the joy that has brought me over the years.

Spent some time out on the road listening to some of the songs that put the biggest smile on my face ("Everybody Want What They Don't Got", "Get Blue", "Uptown" & "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?" to name but a few) and when I got home I watched a few video clips that do the same ("The Everlasting Now" from Jay Leno - my GOD but I love that solo! and "Strollin'/U Want Me" from the Live in Vegas DVD to but a few as well).

As difficult as it was to celelbrate his memory I still couldn't help to tear up a few times as well knowing he's no longer with us too...

Who's the private d*ck that's a sex machine to all the chicks?
Who's the man that would risk his neck for his brother man?
Who's the cat who won't cop out when there's danger all about?
John Shaft ... Damn Right!

Took a road trip with some friends and listened to The Hits 1 & 2 while in the car. I wasn't driving so it wasn't my music choice- I would have preferred to hear an entire album (and more current songs) all the way through instead of edited version of his hits but that's just me. Sang along to every song! I also wore my Prince t-shirt that I bought at Paisley Park last year.

You say this cat Shaft is a BAD MUTHA? (Shut your mouth!)

But I'm talkin about Shaft! (Then we can dig it!)

I wake up to Prince funk to get my blood pumping. I listen to Prince ballads or instrumentals to relax at night. In the car I listen to Sirius Undergroud Garage.

Best of all is I have an attitude of gratitude. All of the Org is a gift that keeps on giving....stories, memories, photos, poems, music, humor, support, opinions, open discourse, etc. Sometimes it's a place to escape, sometimes a place to vent.

Style is the second cousin to class

Played along to a a decent Purple Rain backing track and put "Auld Lang Syne" in the solo just like New Years Eve at Paisley.

Played LOUD but the neighbors dug it.
