Unless Prince's handwriting is quite smaller than anyone else's, 50 handwritten pages equals to about 25 typed pages and often 15 to 20. So, I'm not sure how much one can get from just 15 to 20 typed pages. Yet, since I know that the author of The Lyrics of Prince was contacted by and worked with Prince on a book in 2002 or so, I'm interested to see how much, if any of that, makes into this latest effort. From what I understand, the effort from 2002 was one chapter that included Prince's definition of art. However, that book, as I understand it, was not a autobiography as much as it was Prince's desire to write a book about the manner in which art, religion, and politics have always been essential in the lives of African Americans. You can read McInnis' very brief discussion of that project in part of his interview in the Oxford American:

http://www.psychedelicliterature.com/oxfordamericaninterview.html

That's what I just said. lol

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

So i just listened to a snippet of the interview from Esther regarding the book and to me his memoir sounds like more of a geneology book than a memoir. She said the book is about "his family"

I got the impression that the 50 pages Prince wrote were about his family not that the entire book would be about that. But if he was writing about his family I think that would be very interesting as it’s not something he talked a lot about.

That would make sense. He may have intended for the book to begin with his family's history.

Prince is a towering figure in global culture and his music has been the soundtrack for untold numbers of people—including me—for more than a generation; his creative genius has provided the musical landscape of our lives. Millions of words have been written about Prince—books and articles, essays and criticism—but we're thrilled to be publishing Prince's powerful reflections on his own life in his own incandescently vivid, witty, and poetic voice.

It's described as "an unconventional and poetic journey through his life and creative work – from the family that shaped him and the people, places, and ideas that fired his creative imagination, to the stories behind the music that changed the world," in a press release.
On 3/18/2016 at a press conference in New York
, Prince announced the title of his memoir will be The Beautiful Ones (which is also the name of a Purple Rain track). He said it will span from his first memory to when he played the Super Bowl XLI halftime show in 2007.

Thanks! I had forgotten that the press release said that the book would cover his life up until 2007.

Was always curious why he was only going to go up to the Super Bowl show in 2007.

"What people were saying about Sign 'O' the Times was, 'There are some great songs on it, and there are some experiments on it,'" Prince told Rolling Stone in 1990. "I hate the word 'experiment.' It sounds like something you didn't finish. Well, they have to understand that's the way to have a double record and make it interesting."

That's how I feel about this book. It's incomplete.

Chalk up another victory for Abigail, she mentioned back in 2016 that Esther had the manuscript and that it would eventually be released.

How many times does this woman have to be right before any of you pay attention?

Go take a seat.

We all knew it would be released eventually.

Anyone remember the variety article that spoke about Troy having heard some stuff and it would be out soon. Threads kept getting deleted. And soon had been and gone. We weren’t allowed to talk about it.

I'll buy for those 50 pages, regardless of the additional content and 'padding'. 50 pages of biographical information in Prince's own words is still unprecedented and even more so now he is no longer here to complete the project.

Dan Piepenbring was Prince's editor on this book; he wasn't the ghostwriter. Prince himself mentioned him when he announced the memoir: "“My brother Dan”—Dan Piepenbring of the Paris Review—“is helping with it. He’s a good critic. That’s what I need. Not a yes man.”

So it won’t be an autobiography but a biography Prince approved?

hmmm Maybe Prince enlisted Dan Piepenbring originally as a ghost writer?

God-imagine Prince saying that! Quite a change of approach for him.

Unless there were additional pages to the original manuscript and/or voice recordings waiting to be transcribed, the writer will have to pad the book with material from other sources so it may turn out to be more of a biography.

Right and more of stuff we've already seen and heard. That's going to have to be a hard, "No!" from me.

yeah, we've all been desperate to hear of Prince's journey in his own words...

Standard practice in the publishing industry with autobiographies. Provides a big moment to build to and leaves room for a sequel if it sells well.

Your going to be disappointed with this book because with the description Esther has given us in that Variety.com interview is that the book is about "Family" not really an in-depth view of the man himself
