In the Mobeen Abzar book, there are some band photos from the Dirty Mind era and Lisa is in some Vanity style lingere and she is emoting pure hetereosexual female energy there. Lisa and Wendy were friends since childhood, but only really got romantic around the 1999 era where Wendy was staying with Lisa on the tour and Prince knew she had musical chops.

Back in 1980/81 she was pretty much kicking it with Prince and Wendy was still at school in the Bay while Lisa was with Prince's group in Minneapolis (I never really thought of the Revolution until the 1999 era). i could see it, i really could, because it's happened to me so many times, masculine lesbians making passes, i like it though. but there were also signs that wendy was malephobic, she made faces when prince kissed her in PR and when he got close to her in Kiss, maybe we misread that (it's been discussed) but she looked disgusted.
