Back before the internet when I collected physical CD's (I had over 600 and an additional 200 cassettes from even before that time), I always saw bootlegs as some sort of intruders in my collection: since they weren't official they didn't really belong there, they were just some sort of a parallel collection. I would purchase them for the music, of course, but I didn't care having the real deal or a copy (when I would never tolerate a burned copy of an official record), because they weren't "real" anyway.

I can agree with that. The bulk of my collection is digital anyway, but once you lose it, unless you know of some place to get it back, it's gone. "Digital music disappears in the daytime". With the physical product, you still have access to it.

Not if your house burns down you don't. You could easily make back ups of your digital copies and keep them elsewhere. Something happens to your house, your physical copies are gone.

By that rationality, you cannot buy anything. If I buy a painting and hang it on the wall, if house burns down, it's gone. rolleyes

Yeah, it adds something extra. For example, my bootleg CD of the Arnhem concert in 2010 has a booklet with photos of the actual show, so the combination of the recording and the photos bring back memories of the show in a way a download wouldn't.

Some of us don't know where 2 look online 4 the free downloads. And many "fams" don't wanna share where 2 find them. So people buy boots. Get over it!!!

Again, is this 2004? How can anyone in 2017 possibly not know where to find free music? eek That you may not find one particular release or that you can't find it immediately after it's out, OK, but that you don't know where to find them in general? eek

And everytime I've orgnoted someone on the Org to ask where to find the latest release, they've helped. IDK whom you've asked but either they were really busy or really mean nod

Safe deposit box at a bank...

falloff

Are you telling me that you have 2 copies of each CD, and that you put one in a rented box at the bank? C'mon, no way lol

I actually have one back-up drive at home (see the article I've posted right above for what a back-up is) that I update more or less monthly, and another one that I update every year or so at a friend's home, just in case my house burned or was robbed.

It requires a bit of work, but it's much less work and much less money spent than buying each CD twice and taking one copy to the bank, and in the very worst case I lose only the most recent files nod

I could also use a cloud but with 4TB's of data (music, films and series altogether) it's a bit above my budget for the moment, but it's likely I'll end-up doing that on the long run.

My Cloud by Western Digital. cool

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

The bank box was just for the sake of argument. Your have a digital copy on your hard drive but also keep a physical copy offsite. If one prefers to have the physical copy and keep it under lock and key, it doesn’t seem too out there a scenario. Protect your investment.

For the sake of argument OK, except no one does that. I've never met anyone who had 2 copies of their records and kept one in a vault somewhere. So yes, theorically. But in the real world the bottom line is that digital copies are safer than physical copies, because those are the ones you can duplicate and move off site as you see fit.

I agree with Namor...Some people, again, some people (not all) act like your an idiot for even asking them and an even bigger idiot for not knowing where to go/look. Like it's their little club and you were not invited loser

For instance a certain "Release" was mentioned a week or two ago and quite a few "orgers" were discussing how they had downloaded, listened and were comparing "its" sound quality to a certain "pressed" release that coincided with it, to supposedly "beat the bootleg pressed release"

I personally would have loved to join in on that discussion and comparision, but, alas not a very friendly response, 100% negative actually sigh wall blackeye

Some of these releases are pretty incredible looking. I really like the art on some of them. I prefer a physical CD in hand personally, always have. I always make a copy or two so I don't have to worry about scratches, besides the digital copies I keep.

what is IMNSHO far worst are the ones that make FAKES and sell them at a yuge price... Like "The Slaughterhouse" or "The Chocolate Invasion" as RARE! No, they are just fakes.

a set like a BFTP 5.0 at least you know what you are getting...

Technically they're not "fake", they're bootlegs too. A fake would be a pirate copy of an existing physical product: for example a fake original Black Album or a fake Vanity 6 or ONA or Madhouse 8.

TS and TCI have never been released physically, which is something you'd assume anyone who knows enough about Prince to know of those pretty confidential albums would know. Now of course if they are being advertized as "rare official CD's" it's a scam, but if they're just "rare", well, I guess 1500 copies of a BFTP makes it rare pretty quickly as well. Most of our old boots from the early 90's are probably pretty rare nowadays.

I've been buying boots since the 80's. My first one was "Regent of 1st Avenue" on vinyl. The next one I got was "The black album" on cassette. I have 100's of bootlegs on CD from the 90's and will still buy them today.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

it is a bootleg but it is sold as if it was not. that is why i called it a fake... there are also counterfeit of things like One Night Alone Paino and the Black Album that are sold as if they are official but are not. (as well as some of the associated acts)

But it is just semantics...

I still have Regent Of 1st Avenue, as well as several upgrades that have that have made it obsolete. I'll keep it though since it's not worth much $ and I cherish the nostalgia. cool

That's how I feel. i bought several back in the day before p2p got big just to HAVE something. Agreed...not everyone has connections and been around for several years. Some people are only looking for one or two concerts in particular...and they using their hard earned money the way they want to...just like when I bought "Parade Around The World 3 Disc" Parade Tour set for $25.00. Best $25.00 spent that year! LOL. Hell, Prince wasnt putting it out might as well.

If the boot labels did not dangle the money carrot we would not have what we have ... boot labels keep interest alive .. if they recoup a few bucks so be it ... now the mastering is another story ... wb eye and the elites have all butchered in 2017 ... now that should be a crime
