Perhaps it was his speech pattern...In some parts I am guessing what he meant , and yes I realise he was usually ambiguous

none of them...he was a master of mystery ... including the almost Houdini esque escape from Earth, at the end...

Maybe not the most revealing, but I feel like he let his guard down a lot in the Mel B. interview. It's a favorite of mine.

If you will, so will I

I didn’t get that. But maybe he felt he was a bit too honest in the interview?

Honest, angry and above all, human. For me, it's one of Prince's most relatable interviews.

I understand why he wanted it pulled - it revealed him in a moment that he didn't wish to be defined by. It read to me like a pissed-off vent to a friend.

I can't remember where the interview was from - but the interviewer was asking Prince about forgiveness and then the conversation turned to Chris Brown and Rhianna and forgiveness. Prince mentions that he tried to reach out to Chris Brown and that as fellow musicians and humans we should try to help each other. The interviewer then asks him if he ever tried to reach out or help Michael Jackson and Princes response was that he couldn't talk about it....he's to close to it. Pretty revealing I'd say.

Too close to what? I always felt he meant it was a difficult subject he didn’t want to talk about not that he was in a similar situation as MJ. And let’s not forget in the same interview after he made the comments about MJ and Chris Brown he said this:

https://www.rollingstone....y-20160502
He seems to be hinting at past problems of his own, so I ask if he was ever self-destructive. His eyebrows shoot up. "Self-destructive? I mean ... do I look self-destructive?" This leads him to a disquisition on why he avoids talking about the past. "People say, 'Why did you change your name?' and this, that and the other. I'm here right now, doing what I'm doing right now, and all of the things I did led up to this. And there is no place else I'd rather be than right now. I want to be talking to you, and I want you to get it."

The "Too close to it" part is the revealing aspect. I felt he meant he was in a similar place as MJ...Trying to deal with powerful pain killers and it becoming more & more difficlut to control it. Also the other point about self-destruction. His answer to me was that he didn't see his actions as being self-destructive but necessary and then he kind of changes the subject

Have to disagree. I think because of how he passed people are reading all sorts of things into past comments, lyrics etc.

that was my interpretation of it too, Prince would never cop to taking pills in a public interview, so his "to close to it" was a little unclear. too close to what? not mj? or was it, and if so why did he word it like that, MJ was not an it. I uncertainly assumed he meant he was too close to how he felt about Mj, maybe he was uncomfortable grieving but i don't know. it's really a strange statement that doesnt make sense in any context.

Which is why he was then asked about self destruction. With the response he gave I can just picture the face he made when saying it. Probably some good side-eye to go with it.

Agree, he was refreshingly open and honest.
.
Some people who didn’t like/agree with some of his comments cited ‘meds and possible Alzheimer's’ which was a low blow IMO
