No i have a knook, the quote is on page #272 [Edited 11/20/17 13:26pm]

I'm sure I can help you. What is the exact quote and is there a citation number after the quote? That number can be looked up in the Notes section in the back.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

lol. Pricetag, yes it does exist and thank you for asking! You can purchase it for download on Amazon right now. The ebook is for sale, but the shipment of the physical book was slightly delayed. The publisher is supposedly sending them out from their printer, and unfortunately I have no way of knowing when Amazon will get them (supposedly today, but with the holiday rush, who knows!) but as soon as they do, the physical books will be shipped out.

For now, there are a lot of people who've purchased the ebook and even left reviews around.

If you are interested in the first chapter and preface, you can download them at DuaneTudahl.com and there is a 30% off coupon at the end to purchase it from the publisher.

Thanx for cracking me up! lol. (and let me know what you think once you've read it)

Yes, it is some serious Hallucination Rain!

What is the point of recommending "The Vault?" It's been out of print for years and will not likely ever be reprinted, add to that the extortionate prices for used copies, and you would be as well recommending a potato.

I would have prefer a physical copy and give the Uptown people their well-earned money,
but it's out there in PDF. Or at least it was a few years ago.

Read the giveaway first chapter, and it's great.

If it took twenty years to cover one year, what about 1985, 1986 and 1987?

Quick Duane, back to the DeLorean!

Whoops, my bad. As for 1986, we still have the "A Year In The Life" Box set.
Mine had a multimedia section with a great PDF full of insanely great info on 1986, with plenty of kitsch layouts (bright colors, saturated pics).
Maybe it was pre-The Vault. Maybe hardcore fans know what I'm blabbering about.

LOL. I am hoping to do 1985/86 as soon as I see if this book has an audience. I think it will, but these sorts of books are labors of love and really don't make money, so I have to find a way to justify to my wife and daughter why I'm going to be busy again for the next two years of weekends, vacations, holidays and evenings and invest our savings in this.

I want to write it. Who am I kidding. I'd LOVE to write it and future books as well. This was a total blast to do and the 2nd book has even more information. The first book covers 220+ sessions, and book 2 covers about 260! I won't be making any decisions until after the first of the year, but my hope is that people respond well to this book.

Doing these books has been a dream as a fan, so I hope that I get to do more.

I hope Amazon gets their stuff together soon and starts shipping soon. I'm getting antsy and I want my book!

BTW, sessions for The Family album should also be included, shouldn't they? Mkst of the recording for that LP took place in '84, I believe.

lol. I hope they do too! Like I mentioned on the org earlier, I've been waiting for 20 years to get this book into everyone's hands, so I completely relate! And yes, the Family album is covered in great detail, including the dates, and a lot of never before published behind-the-scenes stories from those who recorded it, and from many of the members of the band as well as Clare Fischer. The Family is one of my favorite records, and as Eric Leeds stated, it is as much a Prince album as just about anything else he's recorded.

Can't wait to get this out there. On the plus side, the publisher has started shipping the book to those who purchased it through them, which means that Amazon should have the books now, and are probably processing them. Unfortunately, this is the week of Black Friday which is their busiest day of the year, so thank you for being patient.

All right! BTW, I never said thanks to you for putting this whole collection together. Thank you for all your hard work; I can't wait to relish it!

I also cancelled my Amazon order and took advantage of the 30% discount from the publisher. It may take a little while (longer) to be shipped this way but at least I saved a few bucks. Thanks again, Duane!

Wouldn't a funding platform os some kind be economically viable?
I have the naiveness to believe books of this quality can sell like 10.000 copies around the world.
With a hundred million records sold, that's a reasonable estimation for the hardcore fanbase.
At around 30 dollars, you have two years to cover two years.
I mean you should be working like Prince at this rate. And I mean Prince work pace in 1985 and 1986 biggrin

Anywayz, thanks for the book. The studio booking hours are the perfect touch, and pure journalism. They made me fantasize on what the studio sessions could be like (LRC 12'' Extended! How did it come with that alternative ascending bass line in the ad lib?), and I sure hope there's more than the gig and the Mavis lead vocal recording from the BBC Omnibus as visual documents of how Prince worked the studio.

Oh, and great cover by the way.

I love the cover as well. That was done by Rev, a name that is well known in the Prince community as someone who is insanely talented. I was lucky to have his artwork and a photo by Neal Preston who is seriously one of the best rock photographers out there. He shot Queen, Led Zep, Bruce, The Who, etc.

I've thought about crowdfunding, but the cost of a book like this would end up being about $18-20 for each physical book, then there are legal costs, artwork, travel, research, transcription, meals for the interviews, shipping, advertising, crowd funding takes 3-5%, etc. and that eats up a lot of the rest of the money. These unfortunately just don't make a lot of money. I'm hoping just to break even on this book.

For now, I'm strictly focusing on book 1 and I'm excited to get this book out there. When you finish it, please leave a review on Amazon. Good reviews can help get the word out there.

I had a blast writing it and I hope I have the opportunity to work on book 2 (and more!).

Thank you for the note.

(I hope there is more footage of him in the studio, but I haven't heard of much. Wish there were some visuals!)

Finished reading it over the weekend. Bought it from google play as an epub. Will go for the hardcover in a local bookstore later on.

.

It was well worth the wait. It is more a story of Prince's life than what you'd expect if you are used to the Beatles Sessions. Of course, they had their administration properly done, which allows more detail. Also, they had many more takes and less tracks. smile

.

Duane, thank you so much.

.

However, there is a BIG problem with this book. I now cannot wait for 85/86 and 87 (less interested in 88 onward for now).

.

What's the advance that's needed to let Duane drop everything else he's got going on? razz

The brenda Bennett and vanity fight had me like eek

β€”β€”The story about the fight has been around for a while. Does anyone remember the story Jellybean told about Prince and Morris fighting on the set of Purple Rain.
