Prince isn't there to run the ship anymore. It has to change. Painfully as that is.

People, please, if the west coast goes sliding off into the ocean the last thing we'll need to worry about is what happened to the tapes stored in Iron Mountain. The entire world's economy will be changed, plunging us into the dark ages probably. Imagine how much money it would take to re-do what would become the coast line in order to get the shipping/ import/export businesses back up and running. Life as we knew it would be changed.

I think the door to the Vault was just like a regular sized door, not a round one. I think you're right about this not being an actual pic of the Vault.

Dave Hampton already said that Paisely Park does not have the equiptment to restore the tapes. Do you think the estate managers should buy the equiptement and bring someone in to do it. Don't you think that would cost more money? Do you realize that assets have to be insured and the insurance company might have wanted the vault material moved? Due to secruity issues. Paisely is no longer a private business it is now a public space.

I honestly think this is for insurance purposes, security and restoration. I was not surprised when Sheila E said in a recent interview that the day he died the building was not secured and that anyone could have stole stuff. I doubt that is so much a worry now that the building is being managed by Graceland but for a while it was not a secure place.

I bet when the older sibs and Comerica go before the judge it will be found that the move had to be done.

As if buying the right oven for baking is a big deal.

They have the (original) tape machines to play the tapes.

They can digitise materials.

What is missing?

Personnel?

The original machince can not transfer the tapes to a digital format or restore them. Why would personal come to Minneapolis to work on them. Who would pay their room, board and salaries?

Once again we have no way of knowing if an insurance company would even allow the items to stay in Paisley Park. Do not be fooled this is LM using the older sibs to get his foot back in the door.

The original machines are analogue.

So you add an A/D converter and atatch that one to a digital recorder.

Voila!

Personnel is not free in a mountaineous cave either.

The tapes have been in the Park for ages.

So why, suddenly, would letting them stay there impossible?

Did WB get an idea about a truly masterly way to monetize these tapes?

(The PR remaster disaster shows how capable they are)

According to Dave Hampton who actually worked in the Vault the equiptment is not there. Also if what you say is true someone would have to complete this task. Who do you think is at Paisley that can do this right now?

---

Personnel is not free in a mountaineous cave either.

The personnel would not have to have their room, board and food payeed for by the estate. Prince's homes are being sold so there is no place to stick people for free inadditon, who is to say that Ironmountain even operates in that manner.

-------

The tapes have been sitting in PP for ages not being digitzed or restored. We are know into new phase of their lifespan. Also PP use to be a private business the zoning has been changed and it is possible that to insure the assets the material may have had to be moved to a more secure location.

This has nothing to do with WB they do not have access to Prince's vault but anyone that gets to license and distrube this music is going to have to digitize it. Why not present it for distrubtion with that task already completed by the estate.

Youre correct. My company was hired to secure the premesis. I'm glad Graceland has things figured out now because before there was no such thing. Whereas..its a good thing they were moved to a better and more secure place than in the middle of suburbia. Anyone could have just walked right up to where he had his items.

Thank you. Many of us expressed concerned right after he died about security. Sheila E confirmed our suscipions that the building was not secured. Thank goodness Graceland and Comerica are on board and not the incopotents from before.

I hate to think what might have been stolen or tampered with when that buidling was not secured.

The only thing that was secured was the Vault. Bremer had to drill it from what I heard because Prince was the only one with the code. I could be wrong.

I think the move is a great move. Once restoration and digitalizing is complete, they can move the tapes back to PP.

I can understand everyones feelings and see both sides. Unfortunately, the times have changed. It sucks and is hard to digest at times. But this is a neccisity for future music releases.

I listened very carefully to Dave Hampton, in two interviews, so I understand the situation extremely well. The tapes were moved to a "secure" location for digitization, remastering and/or restoration. Still, I don't think it was wise to have the contents of Prince's vault stored in California.

With regard to whether or not the estate should have purchased equipment and hired in-house experts, without doing a cost analysis, I'm not sure. If, however, the costs would have been comparable to the vast sum they will surely pay to Iron Mountain, that might have been a viable option. And when I say, "in-house," that doesn't necessarily mean there at Paisley Park. I mean in Chanhassen or Minneapolis.

Another thing I've been trying to say is that Iron Mountain has locations around the country. Presently, it seems that their Entertainment Services are only offered in L. A.; however, I think Prince's Estate should have had enough clout to strike a deal whereby Iron Mountain could have set up a satellite Entertainment division in Minneapolis. They already have several locations around the Twin Cities, so they could have retrofitted one of their existing facilities.

But, having said all this, I also understand that this is a pointless discussion, as Comerica has already moved the artifacts. Be that as it may, I hope they will reconsider, factoring in the risks of natural disasters in Los Angeles.

—I seriously doubt Iron Mountain is going to retool their offices in Minneapolis solely for the estate of Prince Rogers Nelson. Who do you think the cost would be passed on to? I am sure CA is not going to fall in the ocean and remember WB’s vault is in Santa Monica.

I will bet anyone money that the court allows that stuff to stay in CA. What do you think insurance is for?

It is a smoke screen by LM to get his foot in the door despite the fact that he could be facing a court case himself.

Insurance?? That's only money. It couldn't replace the contents of P's Vault. Those musical artifacts are irreplaceable.
