oh, and i didn't see the part where you were questioning me, i'll answer that, some guy here, was bitching about Prince wearing glitters on his eyes, i thought it was a trivial thing to bitch about, silly really, so, noting the guys screen name, intimating that he was gay i said "i thought you gay guys liked glitters" and that was it. i can even find the thing for you if it means that much so i don't have to come off anything. this place has always been overmodded, but it bugs me when people can sling mud and talk shit about someone else but they can't take it. I just said fuck this place after that, and i promise you, if prince had never died, i'd have never come back, when i didn, it was to rub some of these peoples noses in the vile crap they spewed over the years because i hoped they felt guilty.

There is NO way you just got banned for "defending" Prince. Come off it. What did you actually do that got you banned?

I tend to take a raised eyebrow approach to most things on the org but I stick around because a) Prince is great (duh) and b) there's always been a wide variety of folk from different backgrounds on here. Being that i'm a white guy from Europe I like to hear about how Prince was received in various different communities in America in the 70's, 80's etc.

For example, I've seen people stating straight out that no black people in America liked prince after the 1999 album because he was a sellout. While i'll take it with a pinch of salt obviously, its interesting to me to hear people talk about their experiences back in the day, i'd rather ask them to explain than start lecturing at them.

I feel I've learnt about a lot of music from people on here, stuff I'm not gonna get reading the likes of Greil Marcus (who is great) or old copies of NME and Smash Hits (also great).

Sorry a bit of a ramble there but I guess my point is that i'd rather embrace the weirdness of the org, even when it's driving me mad with Andy Allo threads or whatever, than try and tell everyone who doesn't have my exact opinion to shut up.

Well, everbody has an opinion. Sometimes the hardcore fans would express their concerns (okay bitch about it) that Prince used sampler sets or just played hits. So, Prince's answer to all that was The Live Out Loud Tour. Small venues equal more freedom to play more obscure songs. Win, Win. Thank you Prince.

Playing the hits was really something that made me lose interest in his live performances for the last 20 years (save the ONA and LOL and Piano tours and the occasional one-off performance where he'd play rarer or newer material), but I realized that you don't fill arenas so easily by playing obscure songs or the whole 20ten album. I nevertheless voiced my opinion about the fact that I, as a hardcore fan, wasn't interested in those greatest hits shows, or the sound of the Vegas-like big band he used the last few years alongside 3EG for that matter, but I tried to do it respectfully, realizing that the shows weren't bad, they were just somewhat boring for me because there wasn't anything new or challenging in it for me. But Prince wasn't filling those arenas with thousands of clones of me, so you know... Even he once said that he'd rather tour the newest album each year, but it wasn't what the crowd wanted so (for once) he wasn't going to be obstinate. Actually this is one of the very few cases where Prince compromised with what audiences and the system wanted, and he got bashed for that just as much as every other time when he wouldn't rolleyes

Yes, Prince often couldn’t win in this regard. My first Prince show was the Gold Experience tour in London, in which he didn’t play a single hit. This was prior to the release of the album, at the height of his difficulties with Warner Bros, so I was hearing much of the music for the first time (I had a few boots). For an active young fan it was extremely exciting, but I can imagine that it alienated some of the audience. The critical press gave him plenty of stick for it too.

Except that the prices of tickets were outrageous! Tix cost $ 200 or 300 or more...

Which is weird because 3EG did some shows in London that were £10.

Prince was worth the 275 dollars I paid to see him during the LOL tour.

Prince enjoyed this place. He was probably curious to what negative comments people had to say. That's what probably drew him here the most. He wondered what were people's honest opinion on his work.

I was mostly just reading the org back then I think, he caused absolute chaos with the Croke Park fiasco but his posts were consistently hilarious/insane.

I think your post was interpreted as homophobic is all. I once had a comment skipped because I used the word "homo" for W&L, which in French has absolutely no negative connotation (it's just short for homosexual) but I learned on that day that in English it was pretty pejorative. Mods won't tolerate discrimination, which I guess is pretty normal for any board.

not the other boards i go to, i've been a member of a boxing forum for over 12 years and never been banned or warned i was to be banned and believe me, we get into it and sling the names. lots of people get banned over there, i don't know how, i think because the main thing is bashing the fighters, if it were like that here, most of these posters would be gone.

i pretty much know why, i don't know the 'official' reason but i know why. i just said why, some gay guy didn't like glitters, i said i thought gay guys liked glitters and i came to the org the next day and boom, no more account. the sad thing about the org is there are some wonderful, extremely bright people here who have a lot going on in their heads and a lot to contribute, then we have all these other folks. used to be there were some wierd sycophantic fans, who were easy to ignore, but i haven't seen many of those in the last ten years, the place was overrun by people that i just couldn't understand why they called themselves prince fans, like i said, there is a world of music outside of prince for them to go to, they don't have to buy, listen, look or have anything to do with prince if they feel the way they apparently do.

Going through some old threads on live shows and it’s just one complaint after another (with his new music sucks thrown in for good measure). The set lists are boring, same songs, too many covers, sampler set is stupid, too many singers on stage blah blah blah, bitch bitch bitch. Good lord I can only imagine what the bitching will be like once valet music starts being released. eek

It was mostly after the Crystal Ball fiasco, lifetime website memberships, & countless other ways we were ripped off. Prince loved suing fans & closing sites, so yes we trew shade back at him. I remember one year the Npg music club said youd get four exclusive cds, they actually just sent us ONA live and an extra oNA cd we already had.

ya, i could see the fans being pissed at that. I wonder how much of that from Prince's end just had to do with him not hiring good people. He seemed to just throw whatever jackass was around into the mix, which might sound like a nice oppurtunity to give someone but when someone has no track record that can really fuck things up. It's the reason why it's so goddamned hard to get a good job, the hiring people know that you have to raise all kinds of arbritary bullshit as standards just to keep out all the fuck ups.

Listen to TBA for an idea about `black` music from ther 80's.

Nowadays idea might vary.
