1. The Rainbow Children
2. Art Official Age
3. The Gold Experience
4. 3121
5. Musicology
6. LotusFlow3r/MPLS Sound
7. Phase 2
8. Emancipation
9. Love Symbol
10. One Nite Alone
11. Xodus
12. Come
13. Chaos and Disorder

The point is that there were more great albums after Lovesexy than before it was released. I am leaving off some quality albums like Grafiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls, NEWS and 20ten.

Love Symbol. Like Lovesexy, it is a work of utter brilliance.

I don't like to disagree with Bob Paisley but I don't think Lovesexy was his last great album, anyway...

.

Love Symbol / Come / Gold / Exodus - can't seperate them.

.

Only other ones close for me; Lotusflower, AOA and HNR Phase 2.

The Gold Experience. Once I heard "I Hate U" on the radio and bought the casette tape, that was IT for me. I knew nothing about Prince's war with WB back then...

eek Sounds a bit like my own story. I became a fan around this time as well, or rather a much bigger one, as I already was a fan to some degree, so I was fully aware of his battle with Warners. I can still recall that speech he made at the Brit Awards, what a mind f*ck for the non-fans. lol

The Rainbow Children (and it's better than Lovesexy in my opinion).

The Rainbow Children. It brought me back in after 10 years following Diamnonds and Pearls, which I hated.

I'm just saying...

Its kinda sad this thread exists but yes LoveSexy is the dividing line. (and in retrospect I'll bet its when all the opiod shit started. Remember the story about Ingrid Chavez and his "bad trip" and all that nonsense)

I'd put The Gold Experience as the most consistent good and "complete" collection of songs after 1988.

Emancipation had its heart in the right place and its mostly brough down by its cheap sounding production.

Beyond that I can say that I really enjoyed 20Ten for its retro sound and LotusFlower for its cohesive sound and mature approach. (Hell I think I may listen to it now!)

hmmm surely things were steeply downhill after Love Sex square

it's a tie D&P and Gold. Both have great songs and stinkers on it, but more and better of that great songs category than the others.

But my personal best (which isn't the same thing) would be C&D, i played that more than those two combined.

edit: sign of the times: it's so long ago that i forgot Graffiti Bridge was released after Lovesexy and all; even can't place it cronologically anymore, before or after Batman?
With that said, well GB is P's last 'real Prince' album, or at least half of it is, and thus it wins by a mile.

Quite simply, what do you think was the best Prince album released after the last great Prince album (Lovesexy).

For me, it's a choice between the Batman soundtrack and The Gold Experience, and you know what, Bats wins it.

Your Choice?

.

I don't think anyone else in the thread (so far) has agreed with you - but it must be said... you are correct on this one.

Graffiti Bridge ( based solely on Question of U, Elephants & Flowers and Joy in Repetition)

Emancipation

Emancipation and Love Symbol win out by a long shot for me. At the end of the day, probably Love Symbol. Most everything else is the unfortunate duo of horribly dated and inconsistent, and the better ones are just okay. I guess Gold Experience would be no. 3 but is overrated imo. Production issues aside, Emancipation is so underrated it hurts

Out of curiosity, when did the cliche that everything went to shit after Lovesexy begin? Around the time of Emancipation? Earlier? I do think that from Graffiti Bridge onwards Prince became less consistently brilliant, but that doesn't mean there weren't any great post-80s albums. I'd say the best is probably Come.

Never understood it either. It went to shit with Lovesexy. It was great until Sign Of The Times, merely good after. Still better than most artists, just frustrating because of the unevenness.
