A bootleg generally means a pressed CD. When we speak of leaks, that's stuff that's circulating online for download - mp3, Flac if we're lucky. Can't talk about where to find leaked material here. Google is your friend.

Thanks That answers one of the questions..

BUT WHERE do the leaks come from ? WHo got their hands on them in the first place.

DId some one in Princes Inner Circle technicaly STEAL something that was not intended to be released...?

Dont need google...have enough Friends who make sure they share anything new with me..but thanks..

I imagine employees of Prince, friends he handed tapes to, tapes lying around haphazardly. That sort of thing. I also think WB employees leaked a lot as we now know WB have their own vault of Prince stuff, albeit not the masters. I think Prince got a firmer grip on things in the 90s and beyond though as the majority of leaks are from the 80s. That might also point to WB employees with access to their vault being a big source of the leaks seeing as leaks dropped off when he left WB.

Whatever the sources, I think Prince was pretty careless in the early days of leaving stuff around and handing early configurations of albums and early takes of songs out to his inner circle.

I'd like to say a quick thank you to the leakers also...

Whereas there is a valid debate about the morals/ethics of selling bootlegs etc, the truth is that Prince is no longer with us. And I am sure if he saw the terrible state that his estate is in at the moment, and the haphazard way those vultures are trying to make a quick buck (as well as dimishing his legacy with half-assed releases) he would probably not be as opposed to his followers being drip-fed some truly fantastic music after his departure.

A lot of the mystique surrounding Prince, even during his heyday, was the unreleased music that only a select few got to hear. Its exciting and life-affirming and joyous to hear these things 30+ years on from their recording, and to hear the folklore behind everything... its what makes him such a special musician. So I am sincerely grateful to those who are doing this.. and I can live with the moral/ethical side if it means we get even more righteous funky grooves smile

Yes, thank you!

It sounds like some of these leaks are "out there" on the web for the first time, and I'm a bit confused as to how people are getting their hands on these tracks, but thank you.

"Elite" collectors have had these for years. They have just kept them from widely circulating.

I too agree, thanks! It's been a great week~ (so far) I just would like to add that no matter what these boots/leaks provide, I will continue to buy official releases and, I sure hope to buy these songs officially one day.

Yup. Hence the basement bank vault after PP was built, which wasn't quite as leaky.

It's almost like things walked out of the Kiowa Studio in their own.
