The first time I played it I was hooked totally absolutley..I even used to come out of my booth and dance.

The first time I played it at a Gig , I remember haveing people come and ask "Who is this?"

I also met my first Husband at a party defending this song.

My x was sitting in a corner banging on about How Talking Heads were the Greatest...blah blah

I interrupted and said Have you ever heard of Prince?

He said something Like...Pffft...no one will be talking about him in 20 years..Talking Heads on the other hand.....

On the Day Prince transcended..My X called me and remembering THAT day said to me...

"You were right..Prince was the REAL DEAL"

"When Doves Cry". Love at first drumbeat - and it just got better and better (his voice! the synth solo!). A total WTF moment.

This song sent me overboard. Nothing to this day sounds like it.

Perhaps it was the whisper-to-a-scream in Beautiful Ones or was it the forbidden naughtyness of Darling Nikki, Lady Cab Driver, Irresitable Bitch, Erotic City, Head, Sister, Jack u Off or was it the guitars in Lets Go Crazy or Purple Rain

...or was it actually much later when he broke my heart with Something It Snows In April or the epic "coolness" of the Ballad of Dorothy Parker?

For me it is "Now" from the Gold Experience I saw him perform it live at Wembley arena not really knowing much Prince stuff and had never even heard of the "Gold Experience" Once I heard "Now" I just needed to hear it again and listen to more Prince stuff As the Gold Experience wasn't released it lead me to bootlegs and live recordings I honestly don't think I would have been such a big fan if I hadn't "discovered" Prince via bootlegs first

I would have 2 say the one that got me sprung was When Doves Cry!!!

He had somne in the past b4 that I liked Wanna Be You Lover Controversy 1999 Little Red Corvette but damn WDC did it 4 me no question.

When Doves Cry was definitely the one that made me wanna listen to him. What really made me understand how much of a genius he was and really fall in love with him was hearing the amazing trio of New Position/I Wonder U/Under the Cherry Moon on Parade. Haven't looked back since.

That little wicked character called Camille. Is such a joyful and wonderful song it's so weird but so enjoyable.

Something in the Water Does Not Compute I think. I can't say it was just one song though so maybe this is the song that really captured my imagination and drew me in.

Lol didn't clarify, my mistake I meant I've been a fan ever since I first heard that song at the age of 7, circa 2000 I guess, off of the Hits 1 cassette. But I've only been an "obssessed superfan" following every piece of his catalog, official and unreleased, ever since like 2010. Yep I'm a youngin here
