"Hold Me." Such a sentimental romantic-type song of his. Jevetta Steele nailed the song on her album All in Time (Columbia Records). Also, "Open Book," which to me seems to have been written in the female perspective. I love her versions of those songs!

Those were crazy nice give-aways.

The whole of Bria Valente's album would have sounded pretty neat with Prince's vocals...

The Dance Electric and Noon Rendezvous. Both those songs would had been massive hits if he recorded and released them on his albums.

Often times,Prince gave away great songs to "lesser" artists and the songs went nowhere, commercially. We all know that,if he had released these songs himself, the songs would have been the smash hits they deserved to be.A prime example is "Open Book".

Surely "Nothing Compares 2 U"...

Giving it to The Family, and then later Sinead O'Connor, he tried to re-own the song from 1992 onwards when it became a live staple. Too bad most people today probably still associate it with Sinead O'Connor...

I can't imagine many of the songs he gave away fitting with his own albums.

I love Manic Monday but it's a girl song, not Prince.

.

But the ones I do think he could have done are the ones given to Martika: Open Book and Love thy will be done.

Also Mutiny could have been a Parade B-Side maybe.

And Jill Jones's whole album!!... With the exception of My Man maybe wink

Yeah, but the 90s NPG did their own version, which I fucking adore. Sonny's singing, but that's cool.

Back to the OP: "Dance Electric" is definitely a WTF moment, but Andre is his friend, and frankly he did need a song. Andre has great talent, but his albums are just .....bland sometimes. Let's face it, A.C. wouldn't have sold what it did were it not for "The Dance Electric". All tea, no shade.

"Chocolate" really is a Time song, for sure, but "100 MPH" is such a "fuck you" feel to it, that he should have put it out himself. I love the live rehearsals for "The Sex of It" from the Lovesexy rehearsal audio that came out long ago.

Well, technically isn't the one I mentioned studio? Sure it's live in the studio but still...

I hear you though, guess you're talking about the version on Mavis' album?

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

I mean that Prince was known by most of the general public as a naughty, highly sexually charged singer and for him to sing a (beautiful) song about Jesus would have freaked them out. They couldn't have handled it. wink

Brilliant choice.

The Sex of It is such a clever, cheeky and cool song. A Prince release would have been a huge hit...reminds me of Kiss in it's humor.

What really makes me mad is that,The Family broke up soon after their album came out.So it kinda seems like Prince "wasted" those songs on a short-lived project that went nowhere.

imagine "High Fashion" recorded by Prince, included on Parade and in the UTCM film. What a missed opportunity.
