Gorgeous! smile
Thanks for posting!

Interesting how the seller claims "no damages" while it's clear from the photos that the main pickguard has shrunk (understandable as it's celluloid) and is now completely broken.

[Edited 6/2/17 5:59am]

I believe it was done in two pieces on purpose

[Edited 6/2/17 6:14am]

Knightoflight is correct on this.

The seller contacted me a couple of months ago to get an idea about the value (and then listed it for 3 times what I told him...)

The big pickguard was cut to a smaller piece around the neck pickup, so it was the mirror image of the smaller bridge pickguard. I have a picture somewhere in my archive.

To sell it, he put the rest back on but of course you still see where he cut it.

So it was intentional, the old stuff shrinks, but not this bad... cool

found an interesting article (see Google translate for it)

http://www.paco1977.com/?p=2812

It does contain image of what is claimed to be the very first prototype of Mad Cat

I have a Japanese guitar magazine from last year, they did a Prince special, and that first mad cat is also in there.

It's somewhere in my man cave now, and since I don't speak Japanese I have no idea what the words say.

You can also see it in this picture:

By the way, lot's of pictures on the H.S Anderson facebook page, it's managed by a very knowledgeable dude it seems.... biggrin cool razz lol

If I find some time, I'll post my '79 and '84 on that page too...

That flame top and neck were beautiful. Does any one have factory specs on the early MadCats and Hohners? Did they use bone for the nut back then? The nut in that pic looked nicely aged.

My mad cats:

And the '79 which I sold, because the '84 was just better:

I'm of course very biased, but the current production has all the mojo of the old ones, but they are just even better built.

The factory has almost 40 years more experience (building mainly acoustic guitars) now, and it shows.

Not that I'm saying the original mad cats weren't good, but small details like neck-body fit, how they put in the frets, general attention to detail and consistency are all better.

The original Keiyo pickups weren't that great, and feedbacked pretty easily.

The squeals in the purple rain solo are typical for how I remember these.

I'm a bit surprised about the comment that there would be quality issues?

In 5 years, 1 pickup switch that had some crackling going on, and 1 little piece of chipped paint on the body is pretty good I think. cool

And those minor issues were solved under warranty.

If you refer to the video of the guy who rants for 30 minutes about 'bad customer support', technically he never was a customer of ours.

My dealer in the UK told me the re-issue mad cats are the best tele-style guitars they ever had in 30 years.

If Prince's no-logo mad cat had a single round string tree like my '84, it might be from the same era.

Wild guess; maybe somebody removed the logo and put on a fender decal, which was later removed when Prince got it?

^^ what's that extra little switch under the pickup selector ? eek

It puts both pickups in series, which creates some sort of wide humbucker.

Sounds pretty cool actually. Telecasters with a 4-way switch have this extra sound too...

He was in the "house band". So he played with Ariana Grande, Pharrel and most of the other guests.

Here you go:

I've been watching recorded Prince shows today and saw the first part of the Musicology video in one of these shows. Do you know if the guitar that the actor portraying a young Prince is actually holding Prince's real Hohner? Just a little trivia on this special day.

I haven't seen that video in a long time, but I think that was the mad cat with the white pickups that were painted black with a sharpy.

so, yes. smile

The re-issue looks great! Too bad for the headstock though and the bridge guard looks a little bigger and the position of the bridge pickup conpared to the original.

They're both beautiful
I ordered myself a new MadCat reissue last month and can hardly wait to get my hands on it ( ETA Nov 2017 ). There's a few differences/improvements I know but that's the way it goes with these things. Thanks for sharing those great pictures of your MadCat collection.
