I'm so tired of the negativity. Isn't there enough in every day life? Have people had their plus signs today? At least for Prince?

It's pretty much why I've gone back to being a lurker. Way too much negativity and hostility here. If you say something about it you get pounced on by the ones who are doing it. Not worth it.

I agree. smile

Actually, my biggest annoyance about not getting my pre-ordered copy of Crystall Ball from online was cuz that one had the special packaging and I really wanted the packaging at the time...I kinda still do. sad

Aw, well...

lol

I can appreciate this thread. 25 years plus of being a purple politician. Where was this thread back then? I couldve enlightened myself with the knowledge of P.

Don't laugh too hard.
Most of us actually had a "Prince 4 Dummies" under the cushion.
It was written by Per Nilsen.

That's when a bunch of us found Prince was way worse than Pokemons.
I wonder if the ones who went the full Collect'em All™ way are still sound of mind. wink

Ironic isn't it that while all of you want Prince's music to be discovered by 'newbies' so that his legacy lives on, you guys tend to respond to them with disdain when they come on here and ask questions. Not everyone knows everything about Prince, especially a 'newbie'. Have some patience with them or 'they' will not come back and/or listen to the music that Prince left behind.

These are the people who were always heavily invested in his position on the charts and how many records he sold. Like that was ever Prince's point.

.

Oh please, don't pretend he wasn't. He was still pining to have "the biggest record contract ever" in the late 2000s. He retweeted positive criticism.

It's not about knowing everything, it's about being too lazy to do any research. Know what the ettiquete was on newsgroups back in the 1990s? Lurk before posting, to learn the tone of the group and the level required, and read the FAQ.

.

These days fans have it easy, thanks to resources like PrinceVault and plenty of easy to obtain books. I had to search for years to find an affordable copy of Jon Bream's Inside The Purple Reign. Before the internet you had to spend money to subscribe to newsletters and fanmags. Yet these days fans think it is too much trouble to even visit PV; they want info spoonfed to them.

.

I can point to to some communities where 50% of the messages is "gimme this recording", often things that can be easily found via Google. People who fail to rip videos from YouTube, even though there are dozens of sites where this is nothing more than one click. People who need help operating fucking ZIP files.

Have you watched some of the "films" Prince made in the mid-199s, which repeatedly feature disparaging depictions of fans? Or how about the snide comments on his official websites, aimed at fans and former band members and other artists? Or how about the time he destroyed fan magazines by suing them? Or when he divided fans in believers and non-believers during one of the Celebrations?

.

Ghee, sounds like the originator of much of that "negativity" is Princey himself.

Perhaps not everyone is a whiz at computer technology and may not know how to rip videos, music, etc. Maybe not everyone can achieve the desired 'level' of information required to begin posting on a board. The red highlighted part of your reply shows a huge amount of arrogance and a large amount of laziness on your part to not be civil to 'newbies'. But, hey, if that's how you roll, then roll. You can go ahead and flame me now. It's what I've come to expect here at the org. There's a severe lack of civility here. It only take a page of posting in a thread before the meaness comes out. Why?

Yes, because you need to be a wizard to copy-paste a link into a box and click a button.

.

Why not? What is preventing them from READING A FREELY AVAILABLE WEBSITE?

.

.

How about the noobs try to be "civil" and stop demanding everyone abides by their demands?

.

There's a severe lack of civility here. It only take a page of posting in a thread before the meaness comes out. Why?

.

Ah yes, the old "I don't appreciate how you told me where to find info" complaint. It's always us who need to do an effort, never the noobs.

.

Meanwhile the prime NIN forum is far harsher and will dump dumb-ass threads and posts into a garbage can. And guess what? That place is a haven for info-seekers and high quality discussion. And that's a pattern I've seen over and over again: those forums that don't appease the laziest tend to be worth your time.

.

Meanwhile on the Org there's still a bunch of people who get butthurt when you point out their "theories" are based on long-debunked nonsense. And thus we continue to get "Prince gave tapes to bootleggers" and "Prince planned for TBA to be not released as some kind of genius PR move".

Monitoring and viewing threads and posts since the beginning of the .org, we felt that this book is a must have for all the "dummies" out there.

Really? Then you would have known that the Prince For Dummies "joke" is rather old, with this image posted years ago.
