there is no demo for electric intercourse. only rehearsal and live.

also, this is pretty much on our own heads since we collected bootlegs and have
accustomed ourselves with those leaked versions for years or decades.

when these songs are finally released in whatever version, it's hardly anybody's
fault but our own if they are less spectacular than some 7th generation walkman
recorded rehearsal tape we've been listening to since 1991.

well, not less spectacular anyway, just different.

yeahthat Which another reason Prince was against bootlegs (eventually if not at first) because it took away from his ability to repurpose or rerecord something and include on a new album without people saying...oh I preferred the old version. 1000 Hugs n Kisses springs to mind. For example, my favourite version of We Can Funk is without doubt the one with Miko Weaver's guitar solo and yet here are multiple versions of that song so I would expect others to prefer other versions. [Edited 4/30/17 0:37am]

That´s my favorite version, too. I can´t even listen to the officially released version with George Clinton because I absolutely LOVE that version with the Miko Weaver solo at the end.

I think some orgers will be very disappointed when they hear the We Can Fuck version of that song when the Purple Rain Deluxe album is released because it doesn´t sound like the Miko version at all (but still great and much bettter than the GB version with George on vocals).

Electric Intercourse is fab, some of ya'll are funny. cool Not worried about PR deluxe and Prince kept these unreleased for a reason at the time. You wanted to hear them now you are. Win , win situtation. This is a song only Prince could do and i love it maybe we should pack up and PP and WB never release any more. confused

I am disappointed about the lack of second DVD and album of unreleased material, but the price is fair and it seems we will get the First Avenue show at a later date. EI sounds amazing and it's a stunning song (even if it is not what I expected at all). Provided Love and Sex and KPD are not absolute clunkers, the Vault CD should be a must (even though I already had almost songs, but that's nobody's fault but mine!)

Absolutely not, I am grateful. Grateful for the entire box set and as well as the fact that songs are now coming out.

The only thing I fear is anemic releases from the vault, 10 songs a year would be far too little. I hope we get some serious box sets of stuff, otherwise it will be the year 3000 before all the music is heard.

Don't get me wrong, I like the studio version of EI, but it isn't the moving and sexy song of the demo and live versions. Its experimental, odd, and a bit inaccessible to non-hardcore P fans. I wish they had included both the studio version and a cleaned up demo. Silver lining of studio EI---very impressive vocal range exhibited.

Anyhow, it does worry me a bit that Dance Electric, Possessed, Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden, Wonderful Ass and We can Fuck will be very different from the ones we have heard online and therefore very jarring (even disappointing--considering I just heard Prince' Dance Electric demo on youtube and loooooved it).. Is this something to worry about? Or should we not worry because only EI was labeled as "studio version" on the tracklist?

[Edited 4/29/17 17:26pm]

This is basically a good description of the stuff I want to hear from the archives so i'm not so sure I agree.

I'd be disappointed if Possessed and Dance Electric were very different to the known versions though, I'd like to hear what we already have in better quality. Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden i'm holding my breath for, the studio version we've heard of Roadhouse Garden certainly sounded a bit unfinished compared to the live version.

But worried... nah. I'll take whatever they put out, to hell with people who aren't bothered being a Prince fan, it's not my job to hold their hand because they can't listen beyond obvious hits. Their loss.

[Edited 4/29/17 18:06pm]

Why? You already have it. Better quality, ok, but I want to hear all of that stuff we dont even know exists. Sure, much of it is bound to be crap, but nothing replaces the thrill of hearing something special for the first time.

I have a 3 year old at home who only wants to watch the same cartoons again and again too.

Not worried.

This is Prince. How many songs do we know that kick ass live versions and stunted studio versions. Let alone the fact that we've had decades to marinate in the circulating versions of this song.

Just obseriving from the comments, there is a seperation from those who have heard bootlegs and those of us who only knew the song existed while reading comments on the org...

I can't imagine how it would feel to have listened to a bootleg version of a song to suddenly hear something different... I am sure that over time the initial shock will wear off and you'll begin to appreciate a NEW Prince song...

Imagine a person who has waited 30 years to hear a song and it lived up to the comments and raves I have only heard about... it's kind of surreal for me, to realize that these newly released song are just as genuis as the songs that I have loved through the ages.

I have a deeper respect and appreciation for Prince, and I did not think that it was possible. So I am very excited to hear more songs and looking forward to the PR Deluxe...

No! It's radically different to the LIVE version that it's hard to compare, almost like a different song. However they are both EXCELLENT and it's very exciting to hear this gem that even the hardcore fans didn't seem to know even existed. Those screams now in good quality...WOW!

Makes me look forward to the release even more!

The studio version is absolutely beautiful. The minimalism of this era was part of it's charm.

I listened on Spotify and while I have to warm up to this version of EI after having listened/ watched the live one & rehearsals all this time, I'm not worried about rest of the album. At least it's something new to look forward to. smile

Wow! This is what excites me about the release. I want to hear something different, if I want to hear a version that I know I can go play that one right now. Now, don't get me wrong, I'd love to have everything in my collection in top notch quality but give me the choice and I'm gonna go for unheard songs, or different versions every time.

RIP sad

I was not expecting the studio version of Electric Intercourse to sound like the hot cheese B-Side from an alternate universe single release of International Lover, but man, what's not to love about that?

Of course I wish a nice official release of the concert with the version we all know and love was a part of this package, but hey, who doesn't. I can't knock this version of the song. I love it.

Agree 100%. I hope that Possessed is the studio version of the live outtake that's circulating, that Wonderful Ass is completely different from the 86 version I have loved for years and that We Can Fuck is dirty as... well, dirty as fuck. I also hope that Fathers song goes in a completely unexpected direction (just like EI does) and Velvet Kitty Cat and Roadhouse Garden are complete re recordings and I can't even recognise them (although the timings of these last two makes me think it won't be the case).

Sometimes the Org is worse than a Senior Home for WWII / Korea War Veterans, "gimme Old Blue Eyes anytime and not those crazy Beatles/Stones" kind of place. So much is about tradition and hearing what we're used to, there's little openness for whatever could be new.

I'm pleased as punch with EI Studio even though the live First Avenue version is in my fave top 30 Prince recordings of all times. It's going to be a blast to get the Expanded Deluxe edition even though I fear some self-censorship. For the tracklist, it's damned if you / damned you don't if you include the radio edits (or not), include or exclude some track. Sure I wish the First Avenue show from 83 was included but the whole project is already more than most were hoping for two years ago, so there.

And remember, this is just the beginning. There's every reason to think that if you really can't get enough of Prince, then you'll get some, then some more, then more again and again and again. Who knows, maybe they 'll just put a good part of it online and charge us for videos, shows, etc.

Be happy / don't get greedy, everything comes to those who wait.

I dont understand. If there are studio versions of these songs, they were (obviously) recorded and envisioned by Prince and far from being ´nails on chalkboard´.

.
If they are ´experimental´, it´s how they were conceived. Why worry?

.

Ok, live versions and reharsals can be better, but, for the record, if there is one version that will be released, priority will be studio, of course.

While I'm as disappointed with the edits inclusion as a lot of orgers, I think this will be a fantastic release and we'll all be raving about it once it hits our ears. It'll be like the summer of '84 all over again - tops down, windows down, blasting Prince to the heavens. biggrin
