I hear ya --we've all been reduced to repeating the same thing (you as well) because there's nothing more to say. I haven't been persuaded by you (or the others in you cadre of "we") either --though, dferently from you it sounds like, I don't feel that you expressing a difference point of view means you're "coming at me." I get what you're saying penny and I know I the minority on this and I'm ok with this, but the idea that there's a massive difference between people who use drugs for what appears to others to be "shits and giggles" and chronic physical pain seems just a bit too simplistic to me. - I've read tons of stories from people who started taking opioids that weren't prescribed to them. A lot of these people were dealing with, frankly, heavy shit. In fact every story I've read from someone who reached the point of addiction was dealing with some major issues. Stuff like combat ptad, sexual abuse survival, undiagnosed chronic depression and more. Assuming that it's all just about partying and irresponsibility is I think not quite right. - People can scoff at mental and emotional problems and say, well, other options are available but for various reasons people don't know about or can't or won't access those options. It's a real, serious problem. - And I hold to the idea that things aren't always so black and white and easy to categorize for every person, especially over many years. Things change and can be complicated and don't always fall into such neat categories. - Oh and I'm definitely not thinking of your husband here. His experience with chronic physical pain sounds awful! PennyPurple said:

And I've said all along, there is a HUGE difference between someone using drugs for shits & giggles & someone using drugs for chronic pain. Even on one of my posts I gave my husbands history with chronic pain, and said how big of a role the drs. and big pharma plays. Also how hard these drugs are to obtain, for the ones who need it the most, because of all the abusers who use them for shits and giggles.

Disch, you've repeatedly stated that you think there's little to no difference and others here have said they don't feel that way. It doesn't matter how many more times you'll push against those of us who feel differently, we aren't going to change our minds. You are more than welcome to have your own ideas about it, but when you keep coming at those who think differently about it than you do, that says you are pushing your own ideas as though you know better. And you don't. So let it be, will you please? We're quite clear on how you feel about it and do not agree with you.

I've never said anything here to you nor anyone else with the intent to change anyone else's mind...as I said, you are free to think what you like. If I think I can add to the conversation by stating my own point of view, that is what I do and I won't harp on things continuously. But I do not care in the slightest whether anyone else agrees with me or not and I don't continuously post the same thing over and over. That is the difference between what you say and what I say.

I heard such a profound statement in a movie a few nights ago that I had to pause, rewind and write it down. I think it is fitting to share here: "We are who the world thinks we are and sometimes we're not. We decide who we are when we want and who we want to know". Alan Leeds, part of Prince's staff for a decade (83-93) said, in this article, https://www.nytimes.com/2...e=article, that "there wasn't a tour we did where he wasn't sometimes performing in pain". It really is incredibly sad that the very thing that gave him so much pleasure, also caused him so much pain. Seems as though pain, physical and emotional, chased him throughout his entire life. I would imagine anyone would seek out ways to eliminate it. For me, the conclusion to this man's life makes perfect sense. And please, don't misunderstand my statement. It doesn't make it ok that he passed the way he did, or easy, or less painful......it just makes sense.

Im on board with you in these thoughts...

From my perspective, he Lived to Keep on Giving of his gifts, that he admitted earlier on in his career, could sometimes be a curse.

He also acknowledged that He was an instrument of GOD, and never took any personal credit for his unimanginable talent.

In every Interview, if you listen for it, WHen asked about his music or the direction is was taking, he would always respond with "we " NOT I did this, I did that,

Once he knew that his music could unify people, the concept of Union in Diversity was what Drove him.

He had to have been suffering some pretty excruciating pain, because the man we have come to know, Is strong, Mentally and Physically.

I Challenge any Ballet Dancer to Jump from a 20 foot riser in Heels !

I doubt we would even find one who would be willing to take up that Challenge !

This man liVED and Breathed what he Did

In a strange way his death makes sense to me too...

and the reality of it truly Shreds My Guts

He was something special...

An ironic choice of words as that may very well have been EXACTLY what he was doing.

Yes, he stuffed a massive amount of pain pills in his mouth and then went for a bike ride, threw a party and went to see a jazz show.

I watched a documentary on HBO last weekend about pain pill abuse none of those people could stand up straight. If you take a massive amount of these pills you are going to in one of 3 places.

Knocked out, vomiting or crapping. I know what I am talking about because this happened to me after gallbladder surgery. I ate percocets like they were tic-tacs for a day.

[Edited 5/12/17 9:00am]

No you don't. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. See if you can conflate the two sentences I emphasized from your post and ascertain how you might have had the rather dramatic experience you describe. These things escalate over time. 5mg to 10 to 20 to 30 and so forth, until one day, 15 or 20 years later, you MAY be popping them "like tic tacs". You yourself had no tolerance built up, took them well beyond their prescribed dosage (from the sound of it because they're not prescribed like tic tacs) and them claim that your negative reaction and anecdotal evidence is medical fact and typical of most addicts.

It's like a drinker. Over time, they can knock back a 12 pack or a fifth in 6 hours. Again, it's due to TOLERANCE and once you develop that, you're likely an addict. You sound like the teenager who broke into dad's liquor cabinet at 16, drank a whole pint of Old Grand Dad like a spaghetti western cowboy, puked their life out and was terribly hungover and dysfuntional the next day and then went on to believe that NO ONE could drink that much in such a short period of time. That everyone's experience is LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME. I've seen my alcholic uncle CHUG two pints of Seagrams and chase them with Pepto Bismol inside a half hour BUT HE DIDN'T START OUT THAT WAY and he didn't wind up laying on the floor passed out, crashing his car or running amok through the house raping people.

It's quite likely that near the end Prince WAS "popping these things like tic-tacs" which...gee...I don't know, just MIGHT explain a few things about how and why he died and certainly explains the accumulation of the counterfeit pills since, by then, he'd likely exhausted his legal avenues for obtaining them (especially with the DEA rescheduling them and cracking down on doctors). I don't give a fuck how rich or famous he was, he'd have had a hard time keeping up that level of legal prescriptions of these things As his tolerance grew he took more pills until, ultimately, his health suffered and one day he got a bad batch. My guess is he started with 5mg, then gradually it was 10mg, 15mg and so forth so again, for the last time, please understand that these things DO NOT turn you into a drooling retard as you insist on asserting. Prince's addiction likely grew OVER TIME. That's how addiction works.

BTW, posting MORE OFTEN than anyone else here doesn't make you MORE CORRECT than everyone else here and from my experience you're wrong more often than you're right. Also, you contradict yourself a lot and ascribe things to other people that they never said. You argue in circles and shift goalposts quite a lot. You might consider taking a break.

Thank you for taking the time to explain tolerance to drugs and addiction. We've got to get over these crazy stereotypes or we will never get hold of this epidemic.

I dont know if this has been posted elsewhere...BUT FInally we are hearing that some people knew he was ill.

http://www.mcall.com/ente...story.html

I hate to ask this: Did either of you have indication about his health difficulties or the pain that he was having? Did you know about that?

MARK: “Well, me and Apolonia talk frequently, and she had been out there, I believe a month and a half or two before his death, and she told me, ‘He is very ill.’”

Mmmm.

MARK: “And I remember, and it was, like, ‘I’d been noticing when I see him in the tabloids, you know he’s looking a little frail. And she said, ‘No, he’s definitely, he’s sick, Mark.’

“So that’s about how much I knew about it. But he was very good at keeping things under hush – keeping things under secret. ‘Cause I know Larry Graham, everybody for a long time was pointing fingers – you know, ‘How could you be that close to him and not know.’

“He was very good at keeping things …

FINK : “To himself. Even with close friends around – even people who felt close to him.

“But just same thing as Mark for me – just seeing photos of him around that time frame – the last, maybe, three or four months leading to him passing, I thought he didn’t look well. And I said that to my wife, and my wife and I both said that to each other: ‘Wow, he’s just not his old self there at all. I wonder what’s going on.’

“But I was kind of aware through some people that he needed to take some pain medication for hip issues and things like that. But that was about it – that’s all I knew. That was more common knowledge anyway amongst people around him, so …”

WOW. I knew we'd hear something from people who worked with him at some point...and truth be told, there has been some undercurrent talk going on and has been for some time about his health...but it's good that these people understand that no one is served by pretending this was an overdose death the way it's being interpreted by so many. Prince told us who he was over the years and what we know is that any drug use wasn't recreational and that's why the story doesn't sit well.

Thanks for sharing that. It doesn't make sense where Apples is concerned because she has/had been putting some pretty cryptic stuff out there. Like she thinks he was murdered or something, but if her and mark were having conversations about how ill he was, then this cryptic stuff from her doesn't make sense.

Makes me wonder what he and Mark argued about, and the guitar thing is weird, so did they end up playing or what was Prince getting at there about needing a guitar player? Was he himself unable to play so he was hoping Mark would play the guitar?? Lousy follow up to these questions I think, I like details.

Cryptic stuff gets us wondering what she knew, and keeps us coming back to her media where she can advertise herself. Not cool.

Sigh. Some people on this board think he was taking pain like tic Tacs for 20 years I am telling you no matter what is tolerence the side effects would have got him eventually and he would not have been able to going at the pace him did. Coke heads cannot do it forever and alcohols can not do it forever. He was not popping no pain pills like Tic Tacs for 20 years he would the basket case that Sly Stone is today. You are making him out to be super human and that 65k in medical expenses on his inventory sheet tells a different story.

Once again Prince had no idea the pill he took was a fake ...the person that gave it to him IMO knew what they were doing on the 14th and the 20th.
The reference to a burger is the same as if you eat out expecting a burger and someone knowingly slips something bad for you to eat the person that gave you the tainted burger is guilty....not the innocent person who ate it.

In march I had surgery that didn't even require an overnight stay in the hospital and the hospital alone, not the surgeons or anesthesia people, sent a bill to my insurance co for over 65 thousand dollars. So it don't take much to get that kind of a bill.

That was more common knowledge anyway amongst people around him, so …”

.

Very interesting what Apples said! Prince did look frail those last few months of his life. I would not be surprised if he had some kind of underlying condition going on, aside from his hip pain. I also would not be surprised if all those meds he was taking was was having adverse effects on his health. Thus, why he was having blood work done. I take medicine for my high blood pressure and I have to have my blood work done every 6-months or so to make sure my organs are functioning properly. Now, I wonder if Prince was having liver failure or something else? Just makes me incredibly sad to think that Prince was suffering like that and did not tell anyone. cry

Thanks for sharing that. It doesn't make sense where Apples is concerned because she has/had been putting some pretty cryptic stuff out there. Like she thinks he was murdered or something, but if her and mark were having conversations about how ill he was, then this cryptic stuff from her doesn't make sense.

.

It could very well be that Prince was battling some kind of illness and someone knew that and took advantage of a person who was already in frail condition. eek

Cryptic stuff gets us wondering what she knew, and keeps us coming back to her media where she can advertise herself. Not cool.

.

Cryptic messages are not cool (sorry, Prince). I mean, if you (Apples) know something, then spill the beans. If not, then keep it zipped. All Apples and other's who knew Prince are doing is adding to the confusion and stirring up more conspiracy theories, imo. It doesn't help anything. confused

That's very true!! Hospitals charge a patient for every single little thing!! It adds up really quick!! My husband needed to have his gall bladder removed 2-years ago and he was in the hospital for a week, and the daily hosptial bill easily runs into thousands of dollars!

.

I have to agree with Laura regarding popping pain pills like tic-tacs. If Prince was doing that for the past 5, 10 or 20 years, he would have had liver failure a long time ago! The human body cannot tolerate that level of toxins.

Or it could have been an off and back on the wagon sort of thing. I took Vicodin for a week once and went through some horrible side effects. If Prince had the same digestive issues I had then I can see how he would have stopped eating and got so thin. The liver issues may just take this long to get real bad, you'd think if he had hep c like some are suggesting he would not have had the girlfriends he had, so I don't suspect hep c just long term drug abuse.

Women he was murdered. We do not know if it was done on purpose or an accident but he was murdered. It is also possible at the same time that he was ill just Mayen he was taking the pain pills because he had fucking pain. Just a thought.

Good point. He could have been and and off again with the pills, and this time things got progressively worse, sadly. I think he was trying to manage the pain himself and didn't want to see the help of a doctor and/or therapy.

.

I heard the rumors about Hep C also. Seems unlikely, since he was involved with different women, and none of them have come forward with any health issues since.
