No disrespect, but M. Dean is a HORRIBLE interviewer..... rolleyes disbelief

How so? He actually let her talk and this was like listenting to a girlfriend from around the way.

I am kind of tired of people desparging what he is doing and not really explaining their issues. Maybe some of you dislike hearing black people chopping it up and keeping it real.

IMO where it's coming from (mostly) is from people who aren't Christian or necessarily religious. In their minds there is no Christian God so when Prince mentions God or faith he's really talking about some new aged spirituality oh and the fact he read books about other faiths proves he was beyond Christianity and "spiritually enlightened" before he died. Of course he did say this in 2013 in a V magazine interview:
“First of all, do you see a difference in religions?” he asks. I say no, suggesting all religions are based on the same idea and then corrupted by their human leaders. “Then what are the wars about?” he asks, unhappy with my answer. “If one religion believes Christ is the king, and another doesn’t, then there’s a difference in religions.”
I don't think Prince ever stopped believing Christ is King no matter what else's he might have been reading/studying. And as far as JW goes...let's not forget there was a private memorial service at a Kingdom Hall near Minneapolis which Shelby J, 3EG members and other associates attended. [Edited 4/2/17 5:22am]

Co-sign and thank you because we know Christ is the king nod nod nod

As a former JW, I can say that I think it would be very hard for Prince to adhere to the teachings and faith. There is a real push for members to not be a part of the worldly ways. A man of Prince's prosperity, world travel, associating with celebrities and powerful 'worldly' people, would result in so many temptations. I find it difficult reconciling many of his performances and songs with the faith. Elixir - for one example. I think he must have been given many passes by the JWs for his behavior and transgressions. Any normal/average non-Prince like person with this lifestyle would have been disfellowshipped post-haste.

i must have said that fifty times already but people don't seem to get that.

I get it.

Is there a rule I'm not aware of that says there HAS to be an explanation? What difference does it make to YOU?? The only bitching I ever see everywhere here is from YOU. You're bitching about everyone else's bitching, so what does that make YOU, dear? lol

Why is the answer important to you? Is there a problem with just reading that I think M. Dean is a horrible interviewer and leaving it at that, going about your life? Does it hurt your life that much? They have therapy for that, you know.

You have already proven may assesement about your opinion to be true. You just posted it to past the time. So be it.

LOL that's a nice attempt at being clever, but I'm afraid you've failed. I read your misguided opinions on this site all the time, and I just keep it moving. You don't seem to be able to do the same. Would an explanation of my opinion have helped you feel better emotionally? Is that it?? Do you have emotional problems? Like I said...there's therapy for that.

Are you under the impression that I don't like Prince's God-influenced music because that is not true. I love The Cross, the Love we Make and even the Word. I dislike however Everlasting Now because I find it too preachy and judgmental. I can discern between Prince's spiritual music that I buy as his right to express his faith and that which I believe has stepped over into exclusive and judgmental. Its an opinion, but I am entitled to it without being talked down to or treated like I don't recognize nuance.

I am not sure what you are disagreeing with entirely. We are discussing Prince's spirituality. I merely make a statement that I am glad he was less adherent later in life becuase otherwise his music and collaborators would be limited to just people like Larry Graham (no Wendy and Lisa, no sexualized lyrics). His personal adherence to strict doctrine did impact his fan base because it impacted his art.

Hmmm...

Clearly we are destined to disagree then because P's art was contingent on many factors and grew in many ways over his Earthly lifetime and my personal appreciation of those changes differs from yours in ways too vast to enumerate, P's religious affiliation didn't hinder that for me (even if he'd been Catholic or a Scientologist).

Clearly there are some for whom P's growth as an artist and a human being hindered thier enjoyment due an inability to appreciate the nuances brought by those things.

I get it. Everyone has thier P era I suppose. Not everything is for everyone and all that.

Got it.

Lovejunky said: What exactly is "spiritual enlightenment"? If you're a Christian and you don't embrace ideas beyond your Christian faith are you not spiritually enlightened? confused

I believe that while the phrasing "spiritual enlightenment" suggests "alternate schools and/or spiritual ideologies/practice", it can also apply to Christians, Jews, etc...even agnostics or atheists.

If one considers that every being searches for meaning and inner peace throughout thier lives, whether those things come from the teachings of an organized religion or the warm fuzzies caused by enjoying the company of animals or the inner peace derived from meditation...humans search for meaning, to understand the cosmos and thier place in it.

It is said that when one has found thier place and understands how they fit into the complexity of all that has gone before them and all that will come after them, and the truly simple concept and embodiment of love...they can reach "spiritual enlightenment".

If you listen to P's AOA with this idea in mind, you may be able to see this ideology represented, especially in the affirmations.

It's not a religious thing. It's something greater than religion yet can compliment one's religious beliefs.

I hope that answer didn't confuse.

You have added nothing viable to this topic but keep going on because you think you can get at me

You are not going to get at me and you need to stop embarrassing yourself and get out of grown folks conversation. Always someone has to be informed that they need to sit at the kiddie table.

Nothing wrong with Mike and nothing wrong with this interview. I am glad you had time to exercise your fingers by typing and providing nothing to back up your statements. Now go to bed I think your mom is calling you to come from the basement.

No, I am not under that impression actually...and the ability to recognize nuance isn't the same as the ability to appreciate it. Just a clarification. lol

However, I do think that there are folks who, due to thier personal feelings about the JW organiztion, are disappointed and even embarrassed by P becoming a JW.

I mean, if I'm rebelling and the poster boy for my rebellion is embodied by a rude/half nekkid/guitar licking P so I can musically and culturally flip off those who I resent for trying to tame my rebellion...then P becomes a Catholic preist or a monk or a Mormon or, dare I say, a JW...my rebellion suddenly looks pretty lame...and those in my life whom I've been trying to impress with how cutting edge rebellious I am, if there even is still an audience for it, may be snickering at my lameness by now....if they weren't already way before this rather interesting turn of events.

My favourite part of all this is that P lived his rudeness, half nekkidness, guitar lickingness, rebelliousness full throttle then unapologetically and unashamedly took an entirely different direction, continued his art how he saw fit, left his Earthly life and threw his art down like a guantlet, leaving all of it behind for folks to figure out what, if any, impact it had or has on them.

S'ok.

You certainly don't need to feel as if I'm expecting you to explain yourself to me...I'm simply commenting to complete strangers' comments on a message board on the Internet.

It's not all that significant in the grander scheme of things what I think of any of this, it's simply a way to pass the time.

Just an observation...Your mileage, of course, may vary.

lol wink

His questions were MEANDERING, nonsensical, and LACKED focus. Kim herself is a PRO and FORTUNATELY, M. Dean did us a favor by SHUTTING up and letting her speak, which was quite often, I'm glad to say....other than that? HORRIBLE.

He's simply a musician and a Pfan who enjoys sharing interviews of the insiders willing to speak with him with others, especially Pfans.

none of that bothered me, i can tell you one thing, it's way more irritating listening to these podcasts with multiple interviewers asking stupid, gossipy questions and not letting the interviewee finish a single thought.

none of that bothered me, i can tell you one thing, it's way more irritating listening to these podcasts with multiple interviewers asking stupid, gossipy questions and not letting the interviewee finish a single thought.

Good points all.
But it can be just as irritating listening to someone fumble through a question taking for-fucking-ever to finish the question, with chopped up phrases and run-on sentences. lol
I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.
