I like Pope, Daddy Pop, Avalanche...

I don't like "Resolution"... and it's mainly the on the nose lyrics and melody.

PS... I think the problem with "Purple and Gold" is the production of midi voice type simplicity. He should have mixed it up BIG to sound like it was in a stadium.

Orgasm. Just shake

Technically, it's not a "song", right? But it is listed as a track on the Come CD so that's my contribution to this thread wink To be clear I'm not saying orgasm's are bad, just the "song" by that name is TMI. boxed

I hear u. The lyrics are never questioned when it comes to P. Dude is the best lyricist ever! I'm talking about the beat and vibe of this song that I find hard to get in to.

"My Name is Prince." I have no idea why he even thought of this song. It wreaks of desparation, as if he was trying to prove his relevance amongst the growing presence of hip hop in 1992. I know some might like it, but for me it's embarassing.

"It." Easily the worst SOTT track. Monotonous, unsubtle, and even the vocal is kind of grating for me.

"Money Don't Matter 2Nite." I never got why this song made Very Best Of or Ultimate; it wasn't even that big a hit compared to other songs that weren't even on those compilations. I guess it's not bad per say, but it's definitely un-dynamic and forgettable.

I love the song, but the lyric "...mine is the opposite of ice" from TEMPTATION makes me cringe everytime I hear it.

Funny how some people who spent years shitting on Prince day in day out when he was alive are now praising him, going as far as to justify the existence of his worst piece of music ever.

People are to be loved when they're among us. It's of little use to them once they're gone, particularly if it comes from people who were continuously trying to hurt them in their lifetime.

Preach!!!

almost all of HNR PHASE 1 (dunno why he let someone turn his stuff into that mess)

I can get someone not liking Madhouse or N.E.W.S but those above do it for me

Yes!

Exactly, repetitive and boring and all the more frustrating when he chose to release this pap when mindblowingly brilliant songs like 'Adonis and Bathsheba' were languishing in the vault!!

Pope on the Hits is... just a bit bland and light.

Pope live at the BBC in 199(3?) was an absolutely epic bass-fest. Like a whole other, proper song. Does anyone know if that one is based on another, much better song with the Pope lyrics over the top, or whether he played it like that on other occasions? I see princevault has a listing for 'The Mad Pope' that sound like this may have been worked on in the studio. Any intel on that?:

The live version is way better, i love the Rex Club version from the 1 september 1993 where the lyrics are mixed with The P.

"You can skate around the issue if you like,
But who's gonna get you high in the middle of the night?"

I used to dislike this song a lot. I'm in peace with it now. Once you can get past the idea that he's trying to sell you washmachine soap, the harmonies are actually really enjoyable. It's one of his best gospel songs. It took me a while..

so why not enjoying the hundreds of prince songs u like instead of searching desperately 4 something 2 criticize? wouldn't that be a better use of time? just a thought ... innocent

another little thought: just because u don't like it ... doesn't have 2 be bad. it just means: u don't like it.

Prince's worst song?

Lemon Crush.

Tamborine is an amazing song! It´s raw, it´s sexy, it´s weird , not to mention the instruments and vocals...The bold nasty Prince I love.

I guess there are many that are automatic skips for me particuarly post-1992-ishera but the first song that flat out disappointed me the most upon first listen was I LIKE IT THERE. It is abolutely bereft of any redeemable qualities or interesting ideas.

.

.

And WTF Tamborine has some of the Prince's best drumming!

I'd have to agree that Purple and Gold is his worst song. Others are cheesy and dated (Pope, Poom Poom, etc.) but I did, at one time, like them.

While we're at it.... I have to admit that 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton gets on my nerves... BAD.

His method was to record very often and quickly.

Much more often than anyone had any right to expect, he did something wonderful and probably timeless.

At other times, his muse was sitting at the bar waiting for him to finish whatever he was doing, which gave us the B list songs nobody can agree on.

Then finally there were the songs where his muse got so tired she took a cab back home.

The worst came when he didn't even realize she was gone.

Thankfully, she was a very dedicated muse and her bar tab was reasonable. So what if sometimes she just went home to listen to Lady Cab Driver? Everyone deserves a night off.
