It didn't hurt his special live performer status that his concerts were not over saturated in the marketplace or Youtube. I actually loved him for his smart restraint...he turned down $3 mill from HBO for a televised concert. No REAL fan can deny the feeling of a Prince concert in the flesh.

80+% of his concerts consisted of music he'd released in the mid-1980s.
.

Meanwhile the likes of the Stones continue to rake in truckloads of money from both concerts and videos of those concerts. Springsteen's gigs are all over YouTube and TV and are widely bootlegged and yet he continues to draw massive crowds.

Setlists from the last Springsteen concert which was last night 1/22/2017 in Australia, along with release years of each song performed:

New York City Serenade (with strings) 1973
Lonesome Day 2002
Darkness on the Edge of Town 1978
No Surrender 1984
Out in the Street 1980
Land of Hope and Dreams 2001
Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street? 1973
Growin' Up 1973
Spirit in the Night 1973
Lost in the Flood 1973
Kitty's Back 1973
Incident on 57th Street 1973
Rosalita 1973
The Ties That Bind 1980
Darlington County 1984
Working on the Highway 1984
The Promised Land 1978
American Skin (41 Shots) 2001
My Hometown 1984
Candy's Room 1978
She's the One 1975
Because the Night 1978 (by Patti Smith) 1993 (by Bruce Springsteen)
The Rising 2002
Badlands 1978
* * *
Blood Brothers (acoustic) 1996
Born to Run 1975
Dancing in the Dark 1984
Tenth Avenue Freeze-out 1975
Shout (Isley Bros. cover)
Bobby Jean 1984

Care to comment on the release dates of those songs? BTW, Springsteen played the entire "Greetings from Asbury Park" album in order, which explains the grouping of songs released in 1973.

As I'm sure an astute man such as yourself picked up, Springsteen performed a complete album that was not from the 2010's (two albums to choose from), or the 2000's (five albums to choose from), or the 1990's (three albums to choose from), or the 1980's (four albums to choose from).

So clearly your criticism that Prince's setlist selections are somehow dated as compared to other artists is as wrong as every other accusation you've ever made.

Any idea who decides which concerts are shown?

I find their choice of concerts very odd.

It´s nice that they are doing this but so far there have been no concerts that made me go "Wow, I need to pay money and go to Paisley to see it."

Is this for casual fans? Most casual fans probably wouldn´t go to Paisley to watch that kind of footage.

For the hardcore fans? They have already seen stuff like this a gazillion times, maybe not in pristine quality, but still.....and hardcore fans would probably not want to go to Paisley to watch those shows, since they are not exactly the shows that hardcore fans are craving to finally get to see.

So....do you know who´s in charge of this?

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

The JOTY show was professionally shot with multiple cameras. The picture quality wasn't that great though. I know of multiple shows that were professionally shot with multiple cameras that have never seen the light of day, but agree the majority of his shows were not.

As great as the SOTT movie is as an impression of what a concert during the tour more or less looked like, to me it is NOT a concert registration like fx. Dortmund 88 or Syracuse 85. The mere 2,5 minutes PITS from dutch tv is almost more worth to watch than the entire SOTT. Now the movie might stand in the way of us seeing the REAL stuff from 87 unfortunately.

Just speculating, but I'd say either Kirk Johnson or Trevor Guy, or both. They're both usually there and Kirk has been talking a little before they show them. I can't say if the people there are hardcore or casual. I only recognize a few of the regulars here and there. I consider myself a hardcore fan and I love seeing the shows. It's not like sitting in your own home and watching them on television. Paisley Park has a massive screen and the sound system is great. Of course I would love to see rehearsal footage, but I doubt that we'll ever get that. I'm ok with whatever they decide to show, the possibilities are endless. They just need to have an option to just see the shows and not have to do the tour. I think I've done it around 10 times now. It starts to be a little costly.

Yes, that was the first one they did. They thought it fitting since the majority of the footage was shot in the very room we were watching it. I would have preferred the full NYE show from 87, since it was too...but I'm not in charge. lol

So it must be a coincidence 2 of the shows shown were tours Kirk was on.
Nude Tour and New Power Soul will be up soon 😃

2. Springsteen et al continue to make mucho dinero despite their concerts being on TV and YouTube.

Bruce Springsteen has a record deal with a major label and he is not making big bucks on his records as no one is making big bucks anymore. If you are not on a major lable you get no promotion and no airplay.

No they're not. Until they're sold, they're theoretical.

He had value real estate and the commercial properties are not even being sold. The money in the corporations are real dollars and so was the gold.

Ah yes, all that gold that will pay for... what? 1% of the estate taxes?

He was old school with low risk investments and if you cannot take the risk you should stick with what is safe. He liquid cash was low but high net worth individual are supposed to have low liquid cash. The only thing he did wrong was not have a trust however some of his money could have gone into a trust we just don't have access to that info. Also look on the inventory sheet prior to his death he did not have a a rack of outstanding bills or any mortgages that were due. Come back when you know what you are talking about. .

Meanwhile Bowie's art collection -- which was basically his hobby and not an investment -- has sold for hundreds of millions. Yes, get that: Bowie's art collection earned more ACTUAL money than the THEORETICAL worth of Prince's estate.

Oh please, dude desperately wanted commercial validation. Some of us remember him selling his music to a phone company et al.

He could have easily sold out in a number of ways, but chose to be independent. And he always knew that he could get $$$ from a tour or residency. All his late era bandmembers have been quoted saying he was very generous in salary. He put a lot of his income back into his production costs. He donated to interesting charities.

Oh look, there's the charities again. I bet Prince has spent more on Versace than on charity.

No, you defined something you didn't like as a "failing". That wasn't a "failing" it was "a decision Prince made that Bart didn't like".

BTW, the topic is the full concert footage being show at Paisley Park; and a question of when will any footage be released. The topic is NOT "Why didn't Prince release this when I wanted him too?!?!?!"

Prince is dead. The decision to release whatever footage exists now rests with the estate. You spent about 20 years whining about things Prince didn't do that you wanted him to do. He can't do anything for you any more - he's dead.

.

So we can't point out that Prince failed to release this shit for 30+ years, only that the estate failed to do so in the past 9 months?

.

But we can't point out that the estate can't do this because PRINCE DID NOT HAVE HIS SHIT IN ORDER.

.

Everyone here knows you have a grudge

.

Making up shit. More personal attacks. Can't disprove what I'm saying so you'll attack me. Weak sauce.

You whined about "80+% of his concerts consisted of music he'd released in the mid-1980s." You complain about Prince's business practices. But you admit he "happily cashed in on nostalgia".

All this gets back to Prince not doing what YOU thought he should do. What did you think you were, his puppet master?

Dude, you describe yourself as "not a fan" in your profile. But all you've done for the last two decades is complain, complain, complain. It's all you do after his death, too.

Give it up. Prince didn't listen to you in life, and I highly doubt he's going to listen to you in death. Despite your two decades of infantile effort, you're just going to have to accept the fact that you had absolutely zero influence on Prince. It's highly doubtful he even knew you existed.

I hope to make the trip to the Park this summer. Showing full concert footage gives me an extra incentive.

.

As much as I love and miss Prince I see what Bart is saying. All Prince went thru over the years with ownership and record labels it is crazy that he did not have a will. Kind of goes against everything he worked so hard for. Now it's a mess trying to figure out his estate.

.

We can only speculate why he shot most of his live shows yet never released most of them over the last 30 years. Some of it probably was due to legalities and ownership. Some of it may have been because he didn't want to look back. Some of it was he may have wanted big money upfront and it didn't pan out. We can go all day with speculation why he chose not to release these. Whatever the reason I feel it was a huge missed opportunity for him and the fans.

Why do you hate Prince? You've had absolutely nothing positive to say about Prince since i can remember. Now the man is dead it continues. Is it a trolling thing? To wind up his fans here. Yes you do have things to say that you back up with facts, but you also make a lot up which is just your personal opinion. But if someone else says something you don't like you say it's a personal attack or say they are making shit up. Please grow up.

Prince did what he wanted to do, and he did what he needed to do. Last I checked, he was an extremely happy man and as far as I know, he never missed a meal.

Everyone that's whining - especially Bart - is mad because Prince didn't do what THEY wanted him to do. Heck, Prince didn't do things I wanted him to do either, but what is the point about bitching about it?

Bart has bitched about it for 20 years - two full decades - and it produced absolutely NOTHING for him. What is it when you do the same thing over and over and over but expect a different result?

IMO it's impossible to have a "personal attack" on a made up screen ID.

I could not care less what people say about "RodeoSchro". That's the fake name/screen ID I use here and pretty much nowhere else. It's not like I introduce myself out in the real world as that.

Although, I can see some people at parties saying, "Hi, I'm John Doe but you may know me as BartOnlyLustDoodlebug on Prince.org".
