Casual viewers must see this award as pure BS...Just because he died, the AMA gives him this award for an album released 32 years earlier.

It's very hypocrite because the AMA usually never gave aard to Prince, especially the last 25 years, where he released most of his material.

It doesn't help the popularity of the album neither, because, IIRC there was no song from the album played when they announced the nominees and the winner.

Close the last 20 years. The AMA'S gave him the "award of merit" in 1995 and the achievement award in 1990 which is more than 25 years ago.

That was an odd interview. I mean, she said she knew for 2 years he was going to die? Yeah, something just seems off about her as if she carried resentment for years about her brother and has finally come to terms with it now - suddenly - because she stands to inherit millions. I mean, good for her for getting through tough times. Perhaps the reason she comes of as unemotional or fake is because she had her heart broken a long time ago when she became a prostitute. Not trying to be mean either.

Yes. You are trying to be mean, and it is really unnecessary. It's really not any of your business what she did or didn't do in the past. The fact remains that her and the entire Nelson family are trying their hardest to keep PP open and not have it to be sold, and they are trying their hardest to keep the fans happy. I'm tired of Tyka getting bashed, when every single one of us have skeleton's in our closet, too.

yeahthat people are so nasty towards her

It didn't sound fake or forced to me, to me it sounded like it came from her heart. She did a very good job on her speech. And she wasn't speaking strangely either.

Do any of you Tyka Haters personally know her or any member of Prince's family? Stop taking your anger/grief of Prince's death out on her, please. Prince is gone and no amount of the bashing/hating is going to bring him back. He'd be ashamed of how she is being treated here on this website. She is the closest connection we have to Prince now so treat her with some respect, please.

I think there sadly seems to be a lack of respect from a few members here. Some of the comments strike me as pretty mean-spirited, bitterly cynical, utterly dismal and thoroughly undeserved imho.

I imagine Prince being very proud of Tyka for going up there and accepting the award on his behalf, though I can scarcely imagine how hard it must have been to give that speech, whilst fighting to keep her emotions under control. It would be nice if folks could give her a break and maybe bear in mind that she is not accustomed to being in the public eye and dealing with the media.

Does anyone seriously believe Tyka enjoyed being exposed emotionally in public and on TV like that? Not a chance imho. Surely nobody would. Suggestions that her grief is affected seem beyond ludicrous to me. She would need to be a wonderful actress, and to what possible avail would such an alleged performance be? Seriously, words fail me. confuse

We’re just fans, but she’s recently lost her brother for any favor. Family is family, and at least in my experience most siblings form a very strong bond of love.

I may be mistaken, but it looks as though she has found herself in the unenviable position of having the worry of making key decisions regarding nurturing Prince’s legacy, stewarding the care of his wonderful music, looking after Paisley Park and overseeing the charitable work too.

That seems to me like a whole ton of 24/7 responsibility and pressure, which would be a mighty big ask for even the most exceptional, experienced & wise individual (which thankfully she may of course very well be, as I thought she certainly came across well, as a really strong, determined and caring woman, when giving her speech).

I could be wrong, but I doubt she would be taking all that on (or indeed cry on live TV) for any other reason than through deep love for her brother.

With all Tyka has on her plate I reckon that rather than unnecessary, unmerited, negative swipes and gripes, she could probably use all the help and support from family & friends, and goodwill/prayers from us that we can give.

"Prince defied the odds. A black teen from Minneapolis with a goal to electrify the world. He had the courage to be different. With his vision, and God-given talent, he is STILL one of the world's most respected and loved artists. What he told me, was that he wanted to be known as the world's most prolific songwriter. And with 984 titles to his credit and counting, he has done just that. In the words of Prince, 'With love, honor, and respect for every living thing in the universe, separation ceases. And we all become one being, singing one song.' On behalf of Prince, our wonderful friend, teacher and brother - I humbly accept this award. And me, my brother Omar, my brother Alfred, my sister Sharon, my sister Noreen, and my brother John, we'll keep this for you at Paisley Park. Until we see you again, this is for you."

I don't trust her, why show emotions now all off a sudden when she didn't do it before? and people seems to have forgot this part of the ET interview:

When he asked "What do you miss most about your brother," and she began her answer with "I don't miss anything"

"It wasn't hard at all," Nelson said about coming to grips with Prince's death.
