I don't want a greatest hits like most of us for we all have and know these songs all to well. It is a good gift for a casual or new Prince fan though.

+++

But I may end up buying it if it goes on sale. I will not rush to buy it. I want concerts and songs that have not been officially released.

I want to buy "Moonbeam Levels", but I'm not such a completist that I want to buy the whole set!

Hell no, I've bought these songs more than once in my life. I'll find Moonbeam Levels and love the hell out of it though

I remember the first time I heard the song...the first track on a warbly cassette that was inside a box left by the previous occupant of my room at college. There were a few more cassettes after that one (all of them unlabelled by the way..so a proper 'bolt from the blue') but, being as I had already gotten hold of the official catalogue, hearing Prince's voice for the first time on a track I DIDN'T know, quickly realising it must be one of the bootlegs I'd read about in fanzines, was amazing as a moment and I'm not sure I actually want to hear it without tape wow and flutter.

Hmmm...
I'll probably just come round your house then razz

I don't know about you, but I hear magic. It's his very best outtake, IMO, and one of his best 10 songs, if not best 5.

.

If money expresses a rating then the question has become if €19,99 is an adequate rating for "Moonbeam Levels".

(€19,99 is the price I found at bol.com; insert your currency valuation where appropriate)

.

I guess €19,99 for a PR remaster 2CD with CD1 for the album and CD2 for some (i.e.: 2 or more) pristine outtakes plus long versions etc is perhaps a better deal.

Not technically true given that there are edits that are hard to come by, but even if it was just for "Moonbeam Levels", yes, I'd pay $20 for it. That's how good it is.

Practically I mostly want the long(er) versions or longer mixes (i.e.: more music) so edits are not so very valuable except when looking at the completist side of the story. (yes, sometimes I have my weaknesses)

I am listening to that €19,99 song right now; if the version on the '4ever' set is the same the slightly higher audio quality will not bring me that much extra enjoyment.

Heck, this mp3 even shows some analog tape copy effects.... Most probably of the bootlegger's cassette and not from the studio tape.

.

Back in the day when The Hits/B-sides were released, CD's were a bit more expensive than today.

Then each disc had one new song besides the music that was largely unavailable on CD.

Thus the deal was quite OK.

.

Various things changed since then.

CD's went down in price, income improved. We got older.

I just preordered it on Amazon for download and phsical CD together at $11.99, which I think is a good price (I get free shipping through Prime). The extra download allows me to have it for our Thanksgiving family drive, as the Cd won't get there in time.

So they are actually able to mail the CD 2 days before before the release date and have it arrive on release date. Cool!

Not so short answer: Sooner or later, yes but not immediately - still haven't bought AoA, PE, HnR1&2 so I'll add it to the list.

I wonder if y'all will be using this as an excuse to not buy the forthcoming PR re-release? lol Never mind he signed a new deal with Warners in 2014, and was on board with the various projects:

Strive

Yes. I'll give the CD to my nephew and jam out to Moonbeam Levels online.

(Also Google is listing the track time for Moonbeam as 4:06 so it's 12 seconds longer than the version we currently have from Work It)
