I think you're right, I doubt it will be newish material. Dr Funk said 'unreleased material' so it could even be older vault stuff along the lines of Moonbeam Levels.

I doubt that WBR's press release would be so poorly worded as to refer to a 2nd disc of the PR set as an "album"; and the statement that the album will arrive "with" Purple Rain does not necessarily mean they will be packaged together; it could just mean that the two projects will be released at the same time.

It's not unlikely that Prince would have given WBR a new album and wanted them to release it alongside these retrospective projects.

Although, the press release headline says "two new Prince releases", not three.. so maybe I am wrong. I would expect them to advertise a full unreleased album more, but maybe they don't have the project ready yet, or maybe they didn't want to advertise three projects at once... who knows?

We all know that the "many faces of Prince" art project was meant to be released with music from the vault. That is why he had some of those "faces" on his twitter account. I'm assuming that vault music from the eras that were on his twitter account, i.e., Purple Rain-Lovesexy eras, were meant to be released by him. His twitter has Phase 1, Phase 2 and then Lovesexy and then PR "faces."

People who worked on those projects have said they were to be released. The artist who drew the cartoons for Black is the New Black displayed his artwork.

Take some time to use the search engine. Lots of information about this projects. Prince appears to have done some planning for at least a year ahead.

As far as I know both artists were asked to submit work but did not know what it may be used for.

It could have been on t-shirts, mugs, stage back-grounds, song artwork etc.

They would not have been told about future music releases so I think it gets a bit embellished here and is just speculation at the end of the day.
