Going back to the original post.... I think the hair fit well with 3EG band look they were going for. Same with the clothes Prince started wearing during these last years. I don't think there was some big statement with choosing to rock a fro or bell bottoms.

By the way, fros and natural hair have been in these last few years. All you need to do is pick up a Vogue or check out international campaigns for makeup (an obsession of mine). Prince wasn't bucking the norm (well maybe it looks like he was if you go by North America...we are always years late on fashion trends). He was basically in style with the world.

they take anti inflammatories that are called steroids but aren't the kind that makes you gain muscles, i don't think. they are called steroids though, not being an md i couldn't really tell you much more. Anyway, i don't think i've ever seen him any bigger or plumper than he was for the super bowl performance, that's about as chunky as i've ever seen him. Barring that, only in his teens did he look to have any kinds of baby fat on him.

He did those Live in America concerts in 2012 and a few in 2013 check out a few of those clips. He also looked different when he came on the view with fro with Van Jones. Something just did not look right when he was on that show. We know he had surgery in 2010 so what was going with him after that surgery.

Prince in this period just returned to base and started over...it's that simple.
The high ground of 3121 and Planet Earth period shows had reproved what he'd tested with Musicology, that he could tear sh*t up earnings wise but it was this high ground that left him wanting to taste it from first steps again.
I think of the 3rdEyeGirl period in terms of a return and the afro is part of it.

The band were, in fact, incidental but probably the trigger and as I remember the initial coverage of their team up that's how it seemed to go down.
Jimmy Page could probably have teamed up with uk duo Royal Blood in similar fashion after he chanced upon a gig of theirs as prince did with 3EG but Prince being Prince he grabbed it and Jimmy didn't.

Prince, after all, was famed first and foremost (before the big money) for iconoclasm....and after 2009 it was time to smash it up again. He just needed the trigger.
