What we want to do is ask to be heard on the agenda at the next meeting, which is October 3rd at 7:00PM. I just called and was told that they open the floor for people to speak at their meetings, but she is double checking that information. We may have to wait until the next scheduled meeting.

We can also send emails and post on facebook and other social media that Rogifan posted, BE BRIEF AND COURTEOUS!

- Paisley Park is just a couple of weeks from opening its door to the public for tours. But some residents are worried how increased traffic and limited parking will affect their community.

Graceland Holdings, which will operate the facility, says staff is in the process of preserving and archiving all of Prince's music , clothes and instruments so they can be put on display.

"Each room will be thematic. Different stages of his career. The soundstage has different small stages that show different pieces of his career. We'll show you live videos that were recently discovered within the last week that no one has ever seen before," CEO Joel Soden said.

Upcoming plans for Paisley Park tours

Soden says the main entrance will be moved to the south to avoid traffic backing up onto Highway 5. The north and south parking lots will also be connected to allow more on-site parking.

Staff will use shuttles to bring visitors in from other locations during peak times and days.

Soden says in the future, the round unfinished studio building could become a boutique hotel.

They are in the process of replacing the chain link fence with a solid one to increase security and discourage people from putting momentos on it.

"We've actually saved every momento that people put on the walls. Once we open, we're asking the fans to not put those up anymore," Soden said.

At Tuesday night's Chanhassen Planning Commission meeting, about two dozen people showed up to learn more about the project.

This ain't right. Bummer. They put a wall around it, the spray paint will come out. Not a good decision.

Could we have a link please?

If they really feel the current fence isn't secure enough, why not a wrought iron fence? That might be a good compromise between security and visibility. Plus it's good enough for Lakewood Cemetery, which is the fanciest cemetery in the city.

Great idea. Wrought iron fences can be very decorative and still enhance security, maintain visibility, etc.

I just got off the phone again and the person I spoke with said we can still voice our concerns to the City Council at the email adress I posted. However, she was not sure how persuasive it would be. I also mentioned to her how grateful I am regarding how their city and Minnesota has honored Prince's memory so far.

In addition, I still think that contacting Londell as Rogifan suggested, or maybe even Bremer Trust about it is a good idea. Maybe if we offered to support a wrought iron fence it would gain us some leverage?

No harm in trying.

Think about Kensington Palace after Princess Diana died. At first, there were mountains of flowers and mementos. Over time, this decreased to the point where some items appear on her birthday and the date of her death now. This will happen to PP as well. When the Princess Diana exhibition went around the world, I saw it in Connecticut. I was able to sign a guest book which, at the conclusion of the tour, was to be sent back to Althorp, where she is buried, for the Spencer family to keep. I think it would be a lovely gesture if visitors to PP could sign a guest book (they better buy hundreds of them), to be kept with Prince's possessions forever. I just don't think people should protest the wall and the removal of the link fence. Prince would not have wanted anything like that. IMO

ALL of that would be a wonderful thing for P...A travelling exhibition and an accompanying 'guest' book, to eventually be kept at PP...

.

AND the Memorial Garden mentioned below your post - also a beautiful idea...
.

I do hope the PP estate managers read threads like this, to get some ideas on what could work long-term.

Dibblekins, I actually hadn't meant for Prince to have a travelling exhibition, but that is not a bad idea at all! Thank you! It could be handled the way the recent Bowie exhibition was staged. I know someone who went to Chicago to see it. It was also in London. It could go everywhere from Tokyo to New York.

I was told Bowie kept everything, so the exhibit was out of this world. I would pay, too. I had thought some of Prince's stage ensembles should be sent to the Costume Institute at the Met in New York to become part of the permanent collection.

Eight foot tall opaque wall. Really? The estate should consider doing a wrought iron fence as an alternative.

Also don't like the proposed idea of the circular building at Paisley Park being made into a boutique hotel. Nearby hotels have accommodated Prince fans (and Prince band members/associates) just fine, for years. The circular building could be ideal for additional exhibit space, auditorium, or something along those lines.

OK, at least there is somewhere official to register our concerns. I hope that if they are adamant about replacing the fence that they at least consider something that will allow pp to be secure but visible, the way it is now. They also need to address the fact that people are leaving momentos because they are still saying goodbye. How do they intend to deal with the graffiti that will inevitably cover the wall? At least railings, as somebody suggested, are a good alternative and will also secure the place.

They don't want momentos left any longer but how are they going to enforce that?

Wow.

What a crazy world we live in when topics surrounding Prince, the musician, have led to limited thread activity about his vault material being released, but a fire of activity because the owners of the estate want to change a boundary.

I watched the 2 hour planning application video and it all seems reasonably thought out. They are looking to change the entrances for traffic purposes, use a wall for additional security and to stop increasing amounts of cars pulling over on the freeway to take pictures.

The fence was great, but like flower memorials for Lennon, Diana, Jackson, they are a flood of temporary grief, not eternal shrines. If fams really are taking pancakes and captain crunch out their 'for Prince' then they need to see a therapist. The only thing the fence will become is a health hazard.

Beside, a wall could be a good thing. It will add to the mystique on arrival. It works at Graceland, and in Princeland, it could be nicknamed Grafitti Wall.

It's not a Paisley Park thing, it's not an estate thing or a family thing. It's a zoning/city thing. If anyone watched video of the city council meeting (which you can online, BTW) you would have noticed that residents of the neighboring areas complained about people darting across highway lanes to have a look at the memorial or post things to it. It's only a matter of time before someone gets hit by a car. The city and the people running PP have a responsibility to the safety of everyone in the area.

As far as them building a wall, I don't believe that will happen. They will probably end up building a new fence around the area and just ask people not to put things on it.

It's somewhat bothersome that there are entities that have voiced concerns and seem to be trying to restrict pedestrians from even walking around Paisley Park.

Prince was there first. When he built Paisley Park there was NOTHING around there but farm land. Very little development. No shopping centers, restaurants or residential subdivisions all over. That property was zoned for Industrial use. These folks chose to buy/live in houses near Paisley Park and that General Mills plant, for example.

Why are some people complaining about Prince fans daring to walk up to the fence and wanting to take a picture or whatever? Doesn't seem like the best planning for Chanhassen to have constructed a jogging/walking trail, encouraging foot traffic, right along Prince's property either.

Because people are darting across a busy intersection to try to get a glimpse of the memorial and the city wants to cover its bases. Why is this so hard for people to understand?

Surely people did that before 4/21, probably even more so then, in the hope to get a glance of Prince whilst he was living there. If this was really a safety issue, the wall would have been built before. And if not, why not? Perhaps because Prince never wanted Paisley Park to be surrounded by a hostile looking "fortress". I wonder how many of those "neighbours" complaining about the "fans" are Prince fans.

One thing mentioned in this video is the tent they're putting up a outside which will offer merchandise and food is because they're trying to alter the building as little as possible. The guy from Graceland said there were emails and videos from Prince laying out exactly what he was thinking. It seems clear they're trying as much as possible to follow his wishes as well as not altering the building (outside of anything that needs to be brought up to code).

I understand just fine. Chanhassen could add a crosswalk with blinking lights or whatever. Graceland is located on a very busy street. Much busier than Audubon Road. The city of Memphis or Graceland created a little turn off on the street alongside Graceland, so that people can stop or take pictures without possibly darting across a busy intersection or impeding traffic flow. Maybe Chanhassen could do something similar.

no they didn't, at least not in these numbers. People have litterally been stopping on the 5 getting out of their vehicle and crossing onto Audubon to get a glimpse or picture. I'm shocked no one has been hurt.
