As a lifelong Prince fan still shocked and saddened by his passing, I am pleased about this decision. To me, it is an opportunity to pay my respects and step into his spiritual and creative home. What an honor.

I bought a VIP ticket today for October 13, and will be flying in from Boston for the occasion. It will be my first time at Paisley Park, or Minneapolis for that matter - and I will consider it carthatic - a way to help me heal and also offer my thanks, even silently. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to walk the same floors as Prince in his home studio. I'll be in town for 3 days, and plan to visit 1st Avenue and other famous Prince places, and hopefully will attend the tribute concert.

I can understand why many think it's too soon. Maybe it is. But the people who will attend are Prince fans who loved him. To me, it's like a kind of wake and I want to thank him for the years and hours of joy, escape, comfort and excitement he gave me.

I hope to meet some of you there.

Great post. This is exactly how I feel. Got my tix & am so looking forward to paying my respects with others in the place where so much magic was created. The experience wIll be bittersweet as my dream was always to see him perform there. However despite me being in denial for so long about his passing, I now accept this & need to go to PP to heal. I'm going December 28th. Woo woo. πŸ’œ

I'm with you kookooman73!! This is exactly how I'm feeling. My husband bought VIP tix for us to visit PP on the 13th as well, so maybe we'll cross paths. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the tour, but I know it will be a needed healing experience. Just being in MPLS and going to all the places that were his stomping grounds will be bittersweet. I just wished I visited when he was here....

Remarks in a similar vein from others who have posted in this thread, other org threads, on FB, and other social media outlets is what tells me that the family did the right thing with getting the tours in place now. It's wonderful that they were able to do this in time for those who will be in MN for the tribute concert so that those who live far away get their chance to see PP. They've got a lot on their plates to deal with and it's nice to see that they really are thinking about us too biggrin

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

Thank you I am really happy to be going. I will be going the first day so that is pretty fortunate as well. I agree it will be bittersweet. I was fortunate enough to see him play there during the months leading up to the Gold Experience being released. So much energy there. I need to get my emotions in check before I go though lol It's time for me to heal too

Anyone planning to go from Outside the US? I want to go, not just yet, but I'll go. But I'll have to make a whole holiday of it, can't fly to Minnesota and come back in one weekend!

Anyone can write an "editorial" it means nothing. Sound like ass kissing trying to quiet the load voices on the moral high ground to say rightly that it's way too soon to have the carnival barkers take people through his stuff.

They should have waited to see exactly what the show is before making fools of themselves whomever wrote it. The
Mantra of too soon seems like a recurring them here.

Paisley Park's second floor was Prince's dwelling. There is also a bowling alley I believe in there too.

I'm sure in years to come they will open up the second floor, I just think that part is too soon.

I believe it is primarily the first floor - studio areas where prince spent most of his time and a few other adjacent rooms.

I'm sure we will hear all the comments after Oct 6th from those that attended.

Be positive. Some fans want to feel close to Prince and being inside his dwelling will make them feel better.

Agree!

Well it's not in dispute that he was working on it. So clearly he thought opening it up to the public would be viable. Whether it's too soon is a matter of opinion.

will be interested to see how many actually go. I would have thought that a limited season time span would have been better, like Buckingham Palace has i.e. open just for the Summer months = highly concentrated numbers in a short span of time. Spreading it out for a long period of time seems a bit risky?

I was having the same thoughts. Especially the hours they are purposing...going to paying $$$ for staffing during <some> hours that will be super quiet.

Gosh, I haven't posted here in quite some time. As is the case for many of you, Prince's death has been a very difficult pill to swallow. I was fortunate enough to see him March 4th in Oakland for his Piano and a Microphone tour. That was the last time I laid eyes on him. I'm just so very grateful for everything he has done in my life through his music. It really has been the soundtrack of my life. That said, I will be traveling to MPLS 10/13 thru 10/17. I got VIP tix to Paisley Park for 10/14. I am so looking forward to all of the Prince celebrations. Hopefully, they will put tix on sale for the 10/13 tribute soon. It will definitely be a weekend of much needed celebration and closure for me. I see that Bunkers has a Prince tribute band scheduled for that Saturday, 10/15, and of course Dr. Mambo's Combo, who Prince jammed with on multiple occasions, will be playing Bunkers that Sunday, 10/16. I am really looking forward to this trip!

I believe the business plan said staffing levels may change during times of the year when it won't be as busy (e.g. winter).

I have mixed feelings about this, but will probably go visit. I'm also very disappointed in the look of the website. Looks like an old Geocities web page. Doesn't reflect Prince's style at all.

That is so awesome! I'm so happy for you! The first day? Wow! That will be incredible. I hope it goes smoothly. How lucky you were to have seen Prince perform at PP! I'm sure a moment you shall never forget. It's gonna be emotional -- nothing can prepare you for something like this--just let your emotions flow. I can't wait for the day I will be able to see it for myself!

How exciting! So happy you are going to PP!! What a blessing that you got to see Prince in Oakland. I will always regret not seeing him in recent years. He performed a few years back at Hard Rock Casino and I wasn't able to go. That still bugs me to this day!

Actually, it was the weirdest thing. He announced the concert the Tueday before (the concert was that Friday), and I just had this pressing need to go. I actually wanted to go to the PP shows in January, but couldn't get anyone to go with me on such short notice (I live in Chicago). I regretted not attending those shows. So when I heard about the Oakland show, I decided that I didn't care who was going. I would go alone if I had to. I ended up going with two friends who are also avid Prince fams. We are so grateful to have had that experience.

Dibblekins, don't be afraid to travel overseas alone. It's one of the most exciting, empowering and liberating experiences you could ever have. The first time I ever traveled outside of the US, I did it alone and I lived there for a year (Taiwan). In this case, you'll find purple fams everywhere to welcome you. I understand having to save up but don't worry about being alone. We're all there for you. That's one decision you won't regret.

So our mayor toured Graceland and spoke to that city's mayor. If this brings jobs and is a net benefit to the local economy that's a good thing and something I think Prince would approve.

I bought my tickets for Oct 6th. about 10 minutes after it went on sale and secured a 10:00am slot.

I just went back on the site and saw that most of the slots for the day are still open.

Does anybody find this strange? I would think most of the day would have sold out, especially if they are expecting over 1,500 people a week in peak times.

Admission is not "first come first serve" right? if I have a 10am slot I just need to show up a few minutes before (heck I cannot park there much earlier then my slot).

The whole things seems strange, I would have thought at least the first 5 or 10 slots would be sold out by now....
