wow I am surprised..

Noone mentioned Future Baby Mama,

Easily the great song on this album....

The rest is pretty weak if you ask me..

"Guitar" is yuck the worst single,

U2's early hit: "I Will Follow" is so much better (its the same song, and very much better)

Agree, but also like the title track. Overall weakest album of that decade. It's least favorite anyway. Not funky, rocky or quirky enough for my tastes.

If you've got funk, you've got style.

Exactly my choice.

I thought I was the only one on the org who likes Lion of Judah. lol

The chorus still rubs me the wrong way but if this song had a slightly different lyric in the chorus and were an unreleased outtake people would be ecstatic about it.

Not sure why but today I realized how much I like "Mr. Goodnight". It is what "Beautiful, Loved & Blessed" was trying to be (musically at the very least) and it is a million times better. Damn, I do wish this song was recorded in time for 3121...

lion of judah.

and also all the midnights in the world. funny thing is that after the first listening parties
for the album in europe, people reported that 'midnights' was the worst track. that at the
listening party people were looking at each other like 'wtf is this shit?' and some said it
was probably the worst song prince ever did.

when i got the album shortly after and heard the song i couldn't understand those kind
of comments at all. it's such a lovely song. i love it.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I disagree. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed is absolutely fantastic and has an uplifting, positive message, while Mr. Goodnight is just another word for Mr. Sandman... zzz zzz zzz

I often think that about certain songs. Any thoughts on where you think it would have fitted better?

Hmmm....if he took off the vinyl crackling sound it would kind of fit on MPLSoUND cuz imo it has the same feeling as "Better With Time". That would be way too many ballads though haha!

What about you? What songs would you place on another album?

Yeah, I could see it fitting in on MPLSoUND. Good call.

The one that stands out for me and has done for years is I would have replaced 'It' on SOTT with the Jill Jones duet 'For Love.' I think For Love would have kicked off side two really well, and would have flowed nicely in to Starfish & Coffee. I never like 'It' at all. Those awful orchestral stabs made it sound like a bad Pet Shop Boys B-Side to me.

'5 Women' might have been a better choice on D&P than 'Willing & Able.'

Like many I genuinely think Somewhere Here On Earth is the best song on the album but I also have a soft spot for All The Midnights... and Resolution.

Love the gentle understated vocal delivery and creative lyrics on All The Midnights... it's just has a nice vibe.

Resolution is a cool bouncy acoustic driven song that always reminds me of sitting with my wife smiling and watching thousands of glowsticks being waved at the O2 as it was played over the PA before the main concert on the last of 21 Nights in 2007...

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Glad to see people citing "All the Midnights In the World" - that's my choice, hands down. Hard to explain how much I love this little song - IMO a true classic. Perfect in every way.

I am coming around to the 'Lion of Judah'.

I think that I like it better than 'Planet Earth' now.

This is one of my least favorite Prince albums because it is so bland. Most of the songs seem uninspired. It sounds perfectly pleasant, and would be his long album that would ben great for the doctor's office ( Can you imagine others - where I live playing P Control in public would probably get you in trouble. That said, there are still a few decent songs

-- Somewhere Here on Earth

--Planet Earth (Has the potential to be a great song but production weird - sometimes can't here the singing, etc)

--Guitar (only because it is so good live!)
